PAYING TRIBUTE TO OUR FALLEN HEROES

Memorial Day is a day to pause and remember the men and women of our armed services who have given their lives in service to our nation. It's a time to pay tribute to those who've made the ultimate sacrifice in order to protect our freedom and liberty. If you've lost a loved one who died while in military service, please accept the humble gratitude of the entire nation.

Below are just a few of the interviews we've conducted with men and women who have bravely served in our armed forces. Many of them lost their brothers and sisters in arms, and we hope the stories they share will keep those voices alive forever.

  Brush Of Honor

Phil Taylor was an established artist, working on large-scale murals, graphic design and portraiture. But it was a personal experience with the tragic loss of a childhood friend that truly sparked a life-changing passion. Click here to find out about Phil's mission to paint portraits of America’s fallen heroes and hand-deliver them to surviving family members across the country and the TV series it has inspired.

Profile in Courage

Sgt. 1st Class Joe Kapacziewski is the first and only amputee in Army Rangers’ history to return to combat, and he did it a stunning five times. He explains why he realized amputating his injured leg was the only way to maintain his active lifestyle and get back on the battlefield with his fellow Rangers to honor those who'd lost their lives.   Leaving a Legacy

The Tuskegee Airmen have been immortalized for their heroism in WWII. They fought two wars, one against the Axis powers, the other against prejudice at home. Fewer than 50 Red Tail pilots are alive today, so we jumped at the chance to meet three. Click here to learn more about their incredible stories.

This WASP Can Still Sting

Betty Wall was one of a handful of female pilots in World War II. After the war, she thought that part of her life was over. But then she realized she owed it to her friends — and herself — to make sure we never forgot about their contributions. Click here to watch Betty's story and learn more about these brave and pioneering women. Also, GB's Bill Shafer honors Betty and a 92-year-old female pilot who recently got back into the cockpit of a fighter plane!

  They Saved the World

Tim Gray was always fascinated with stories of World War II and the men and women who saved the world. He left behind a career as a successful TV sports reporter because he knew time was running out to capture these stories. Click here to listen to the eyewitness accounts of the men who stormed the beaches and suffered through the atrocities of war. It’s a powerful reminder about the cost of freedom and the bravery of the Greatest Generation
