NEWS

We now regularly volunteer at "King's Club" which is the club run by One Church for children aged 5-11. It runs every Friday during term time from 5:45pm to 7:30pm at Gloucester Place. They are trying to set up a rota for leaders/Volunteers so if you feel you can spare these few hours regularly, either once a month, once a fortnight or whenever, then please contact andrew@mccbrighton.org.uk for details about the club and how to get involved.

Our volunteering at Lunch Positive is still making a huge difference and with Caroline Hill and Suzy Miles supporting them it has greatly increased the diversity of volunteers and made it a much more welcoming place for women affected by HIV.

We are supporting a number of groups in the community but are always on the look out for more opportunities to be of service, so if you know of anyone that could use our support SPEAK UP. Email board@mccbrighton.org.uk

What's happening?

The midweek group continues to be held in Bevendean, 730pm every Tuesday.

The virtual version of our midweek discussion group is growing and open to all. To take part just email us. The group is a facebook group and new members have to be added by one of the admins, so if you want to be a part of wide ranging lively discussions then contact us.

 Interested in either? Contact: info@mccbrighton.org.uk

We are volunteering every Friday with Lunch Positive, 1pm at Dorset Gardens Methodist Church. Contact Andrew@mccbrighton.org.uk if you would like to come along.

Although worship begins at 6pm every Sunday at URC Portslade, feel free to come early as we are usually there from about 5:15pm and can use this time to discuss worship, discernment, events and the future.

The Discernment Process

Final stretch

We are close to finishing the discernment process set by Rev Elder Darlene Garner. The final stage is looking at new areas of ministry. The discernment team has looked at a number of areas and will be presenting to the Board some options/suggestions with one strong recommendation. The board will then discuss the options and the team recommendation before bringing it to the congregation for a vote. This is a very important part of the process and will be decided in an EGM by all of us. So,keep an eye out for the date of the meeting and make sure you don't miss your chance to have a say in the future of MCC Brighton.

Remember, YOU HAVE A VOICE AND IT MATTERS!

The 1st ever Virtual Leadership Mentoring Retreat held by MCC

Last week (11-15 May 2015) Andrew Ramage and I were both able to take part in the 1st ever 'virtual' Leadership Mentoring Retreat (or LMR) held by MCC.  It was held in a virtual classroom on-line from 5:00 - 10:00 pm from Monday - Friday.
In this virtual retreat we learned leadership styles, the spirituality of leadership, and diversity in leadership.  There were presentations about finding mentors to MCC's presence in the world.  We even walked a virtual labyrinth and experience virtual worship with our Moderator, Rev. Elder Nancy Wilson preaching.
There were 5 leaders throughout the week and 15 participants from 4 different countries who were split into 2 cohort groups.  We had time to get to know each other as we talked, laughed, learned and shared together over the week.  Personally I have made at least 3 new good friends even though we have never actually met each other!
It was wonderful to be able to be part of this pilot 'virtual' retreat and I would recommend this retreat to anyone who is interested in working within MCC beyond the local level or wants to understand more about the relationship between local church ministries and the denominational goals. OTHER NEWS

We carried out the first of our discussed training sessions recently with training in Communion. Following the training Kim Pawley celebrated communion for us and it was a true breath of fresh air. If you are interested in celebrating communion, preaching or doing anything during worship speak up, we will be carrying out further training in the near future and look forward to the fresh expressions of worship new voices will bring.

The European Network Gathering at The Ammerdown Centre is running 15/16 August 2015. The link to register is HERE
The last gathering was fantastic and was attended by people from Finland, Sweden, Germany, Italy as well as UK and USA. It really is a chance to find out more about our network, hear some of the stories that have made it as big as it is and to experience some great worship.
