Dorset, Poole and Bournemouth Councils along with Dorset CCG have come together to help people at the early stages of caring to remember their own needs as well as the person they care for. To encourage new carers to think about their own health, a Carers’ Health and Wellbeing Questionnaire is being launched across Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole and signposts people to join a carers’ information service to learn more about caring and services available locally.
Following the introduction of the Care Act in April 2015, carers can be eligible for support from the council whether or not the adult they care for has eligible needs. The carer's questionnaire will be made widely available in public places such as GP surgeries, pharmacies and libraries. The three step process designed to determine eligibilty for help can also be found at https://www.mylifemycare.com/Carers-assessment-criteria.
There are almost 83,000 carers across Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole, and with an ageing population and an increasing number of people with at least one long-term health condition, the number of carers over the age of 65 is expected to increase by 35 per cent over the next 10 years. Pharmacies should have received information in the post recently about this initiative.

Allergy cards
Patient information leaflets and posters have been sent to every GP practice and hospital trust. Pharmacies can refer patients who exhibit allergies to their medication to their local surgery so that they can obtain a card and further information. Once the process for reordering materials is established, community pharmacies will be able to hold stocks as well. You can download the poster for allergy awareness week here.

The GPhC are holding a national conversation on patient-centred professionalism and want as many people as possible to take part. The outcomes will inform our future regulatory work, and in particular the review of our standards of conduct, ethics and performance, the core standards that all pharmacy professionals must meet.
This discussion and the survey will run until Friday 26th June. You can read the full discussion paper and access the survey here and join in with the conversation on social media using the hashtag #professionalism4patients.
