Sunday's Message: "Resuscitation or Resurrection"

John 11:1-45

"A Present God"
When John wrote his version of the story of Jesus, he described Jesus performing seven miracles.  He references that there were many more, but he focused his attention on those seven.  Each miracle is an unique and intentional story of Jesus being present in the circumstances of someone's life.  In our Spring Sermon Series, we will explore each of these signs of Jesus' power, care, creativity, and investment in the lives of those he encountered.  What we hope to discover in these stories of God's power in the lives of the people in these stories, is the present power of God in our own lives.

Brief History Facts of our Church

In 1951, 11 more people were added as members.  The church hired a music major from Augustana, Joan Chilson, to lead the choir for $5.00 per week.  And the first Confirmation class of 7 young people were confirmed.

Interesting Facts about Mt. Kilimanjaro

  • The first time successful summit was in 1889 and took 6 weeks. Today, climbers are able to make it to the summit in 5 or 6 Days!
  • The mountain is 5,895 meters tall (a little over 3 1/2 miles).  It is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world.
  • Coffee is grown on the lower part of the mountain and is considered a major export!
  • The oldest person to successfully climb the mountain was Valtee Daniel at age 87!
  • The mountain is made up of 3 volcanos: Kibo, Shira, and Mawenzi.  Kibo lies dormant or sleeping (could erupt again) but the other two are considered extinct.
