Submissions Call for Room magazine: Issue 39.1 Women of Colour

We invite women of colour to submit their very best poetry, short fiction, creative non-fiction, and art. We welcome writing and art about the experience of being racialized, dealing with racial discrimination, grappling with representation, defining one's identity or identities, lost and reclaimed histories, as well as stories about loss, love, heartbreak, and triumph. This issue will highlight the experiences and narratives of women of colour that go often unheard.

women of colour* = non-white women, including trans* and non-binary people

About the 39.1 Editors

A lover of pop-culture, art, and literature, Nailah King is a Woman of Colour influenced by her Caribbean upbringing. Oral history and storytelling from her very Bajan mother first interested her in writing.

Christina Cooke is a Jamaican-born butch woman who continues to celebrate her cultural ancestry in her everyday life. Her writing, whether creative or otherwise, centers on queer female perspectives from the Jamaican diaspora attempting to find solace, to find community, to find home.

Kayi Wong is now old enough to appreciate her father for not giving her a more “convenient” name. Born in Hong Kong, she has resided in many places since, living in a constant diasporic state. Though privileged enough, she must read and write to survive the discrimination and daily micro-aggressions experienced by herself, and many, many others.
