One of the verses that God has been speaking to us as a church recently comes from Romans 12 verse 2: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will"
The Bible teaches clearly that believers and followers of Jesus become members of His Kingdom as a result. Jesus tells Nicodemus this quite clearly in John 3:3. The resulting effect of this "conversion" causes God's love, grace and forgiveness to flood into our lives. However, one of the things that must happen is that our old way of thinking must change too. Paul tells us that we must not think the way the rest of the world does but rather think in terms of how His Kingdom operates. A great outline on the Kingdom is found in Jesus' Sermon on the mount.
Growing up in the Church I would regularly hear messages spoken on the End Times and The Second Coming of Christ but for some reason churches seem to have drifted away from preaching and teaching on these subjects nowdays. Some friends called around last night and we even talked about the Thief in the Night film that most of us had watched as teenagers and been scared half to death! How refreshing it was yesterday then to hear Ian Morgan speak on the subject that he has studied at quite some length and even written a book called Revelation Revealed.
Whilst some view teaching on the subject controversial and others prefer to teach on more main stream subjects, we must never shy away from speaking on issues that we believe reflect the Truth of God's Word. In fact the Bible challenges us to "transform our minds" rather than simply conforming with populist views.
Who knows? It will certainly be interesting to the see how things unfold as the enormous Asteroid Apophis YouTube Video that Ian shared comes closer in the forthcoming years.
Thank God that regardless of what today, tomorrow or next year holds, that we know our hope is in Christ Jesus;
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name
Have a great week!
