In 2012, Douglas Dendinger, a stand-in process server and former Army veteran, had his wife record what should have been a simple serve. After seven public servants falsely claimed he assaulted a police officer, Dendinger faced criminal charges and 50 years in prison. Recording the serve turned out to be a decision that saved Dendinger from spending the rest of his life in a jail cell.
