Focusing on Improvement

How educator evaluation policies are understood and implemented on the ground is important for the continuous improvement of state efforts. Earlier this month, our team conducted focus groups in eight cities across Arkansas to gather honest feedback from educators and provide recommendations to the state.

We heard from nearly 200 educators including classroom teachers, specialists, sc
hool leaders and central office personnel representing over 90 districts of all sizes and from diverse geographic contexts. The feedback we gathered from them indicates that educators enjoy and benefit from the focus group process, as much as we do.

Stakeholders Convene on EE Policy

On May 19 and 20, we convened six state teams with representatives from various stakeholder groups to discuss a way forward in educator evaluation policy. From state superintendents to classroom teachers to union leadersall learned and applied the art of interest based negotiations from our friends at Ki ThoughtBridge.

Employment Policies Post-Vergara

Tenure, dismissal and seniority have been debated for years, but with recent cases playing out in the courts the disputes have been elevated to new levels. This policy analysis, released by the Education Commission of the States uses the Vergara v.
