Light on water
Paintings by Rick Garland
In the mid-19th century the Pre-Raphaelite painters paid close attention to nature, delighting in every stone and leaf. Rick Garland's admiration for the Pre-Raphaelites shines through in these three paintings, all of which feature water and the reflection of light upon its surface. While Rick's work pays homage to the past, it is at the same time thoroughly modern, employing contemporary materials and references.
'Love's End' (above) is Rick's largest painting to date, measuring 200 x 130 cm. Candles flicker around the figure of a young woman half-submerged in water, in a scene reminiscent of John Everitt Millais' 'Ophelia'. Like Millais, Rick Garland posed his model in water to achieve this remarkably naturalistic painting.
Rick Garland's work is highly sought after both here in the UK and in America, with many avid collectors awaiting each new work.
