Invest in a Living Springs Youth Disciple!

Become a Youth Gathering Shareholder -
D2, LLC

Over the past few months, our ELCA National Youth Gathering participants and parents have been very busy preparing for the Gathering. We meet each month for a devotion to learn about this history of Detroit and how we can be Christ-like servants while we are there! Sara Levitt, Andrew Levitt, Laura Stuart, Jack Arnold, Dylan Horan, and Patrick Lay are our youth participants with Laura Dunklin, Wes Levitt, and Shirley Laingen going as chaperones.  Pastor Eric is also attending as our SC Synod Proclaim Story Day coordinator.
The attendees to the Gathering have an IPO for our new “company” D2, LLC. The title stands for Detroit Disciples, Lutherans Loving Community.  We sold all 500 SHARES!  We are so blessed to have a generous group of disciples who support our young people.  Funds will be used to help cover the cost of food, travel, and lodging for the trip.  Shareholders will receive updates from our youth – and be invited to attend a Shareholders Banquet after the gathering.   Please keep our Living Springs Detroit Disciples in your prayers as they continue to prepare for this awesome faith-enriching experience!
We continue to form our Lutheran Men’s circle of prayer where each man is praying for a brother in Christ. Next breakfast gathering will be Saturday, May 30th at 8:00 am at Living Springs. Meal is being served by Laura Cunningham, LS Food Resource Person.  @ $7.00 per person. We will be discussing our upcoming events. We meet on the last Saturday of each month.  Contact Bob Turnmire at 803-513-7533.

GraceWorks - June 7-12

Columbia Area Lutheran Servant Blitz

Grades 6-12...Sign Up Now!
Adult Helpers Also Needed

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for works of grace, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.” Ephesians 2:10
Just received news today that the first 30 Lutheran youth have now signed up for our Columbia-area Lutheran Youth GraceWorks.   This is a great faith opportunity to begin the summer, as well as build relationships with other area Lutheran Youth for the summer and months ahead (see copy of last week’s email below for full details).

If youth haven’t signed up yet, here again is the link:   To register go directly to this Event-brite link (use control+click):   GraceWorks registration.    Adults can also use this same link to sign up as a volunteer or chaperone for part of a day.

Finally, today, we received a new link to make DONATIONS of various items needed for the week (more needed items will be added later, so check back several times):
– use control+click :  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b4ea8a928aafd0-graceworks
As you go in to the site, you chose what items you are willing to donate, and then as you “check out” you will specify the number of items.  So, for example, we are asking for 20 packages of granola bars.  You select granola bars, and then when you check out, you agree to donate 4 packs.  Then, the form will indicate that we still need 16 packs.

SC WELCA Convention

June 12-13

SC WELCA convention is will be in Newberry SC on June 12-13.  All SC WELCA women are invited to attend.  The focus is on “child and family services.”  Lutheran Services have asked for several kits to help with the families.  We at LS will put together hygiene kits.  Items needed for the kits are:
Adults:  shampoo, bar soap, toothbrush and paste, lotion, deodorant, hair brush/comb, razors, shaving cream, nail clippers, wash cloth, hand towel.
Child:  children’s shampoo, small toothbrush and paste, deodorant, small hair brush/comb, wash cloth, hand towel.
A box labeled WELCA hygiene kits will be in the narthex for dropping off donations.  The items will be sealed in a gallon size Ziploc bag.   Please make all donations by June 7, 2015.
FAITH5 devotions for the month of May are on our website, in our narthex or click the pictures above for your home use  to SHARE, READ, TALK, PRAY and BLESS.

Lessons for Sunday, May 24

First Reading: Acts 2:1–21

Originally Pentecost was a Jewish thanksgiving-type festival celebrated seven weeks after Passover. On this particular Pentecost, however, the Holy Spirit is poured out upon the entire community of believers just as Jesus had promised and the scriptures had prophesied. Empowered by the Spirit, the entire community bears witness to God's activity in multiple languages.

Psalm (ELW): Psalm 104:24–34, 35b

Send forth your Spirit and renew the face of the earth. (Ps. 104:30)

Second Reading: Romans 8:22–27

By pouring the Holy Spirit into our hearts, God gives us the promised first fruit of eternal life so that we await God's future in hope. In the meantime, the Spirit also intercedes for us by carrying the prayers of our weak human hearts to God.

Gospel: John 15:26–27; 16:4b–15

When speaking to his disciples before his death, Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as "the Helper" and described the difference the Spirit would make in their lives and in the world.
