Welcome to the May issue of eNews. It's been a really bizarre month for weather - certainly 4 seasons in 1 month - so hopefully the eNews will brighten up your day...

Our projects and services...

Job Opportunity - Volunteer Development Officer: We are currently seeking maternity cover for our part time Volunteer Development Officer - deadline for application is midday on Thu 21 May (tomorrow!)

Active Seniors Day in the Park: we will be along at this year's Day in the Park on Tue 9 Jun promoting the work we are involved in, so why not pop along and say hello!

Play on Pedals bike amnesty: De'ils On Wheels is taking part in the Play on Pedals bike amnesty throughout the month of June. You can donate unwanted children's bikes and they will go towards getting every nursery school child in the city cycling!

Green Gym on the bike path: we were up on the bike path with volunteers from the Green Gym and SusTrans recently doing a clean up between Dyke Road and Plean Street. The sun was shining and over 50 bags of rubbish were removed and the bluebells were in full bloom!

SimplePleaures_ImageSimple Pleasures map: find out more about the Simple Pleasures map here and if you would like hard copies of the map then please pop into the Community Centre where you can pick some up. The maps will also be popping up in various locations throughout the neighbourhood!

WH Malcolm planning application update: there have been over 500 objections submitted against the proposed gasification plant at the WH Malcolm site on South Street.

Job Opportunity - Community Development Worker: LINKES are recruiting for a part-time Community Development Worker to join their small team and play a vital role in running this busy project. Deadline Fri 22 May

Give Everyone Cycle Space: Give Everyone Cycle Space is a Cycling Scotland campaign to encourage more people to cycle. It aims to create high levels of driver awareness around people on bikes to make Scotland’s roads more cycle friendly.

SCC_Planter_01Scotstoun Community Council planting project: Scotstoun Community Council have been planting spring flowering bulbs and perennial hardy geranium in various ‘green plots’ and planters across the Community Council area.

Public talk on waterfowl: Friends of Victoria Park are hosting a public talk on the waterfowl in Victoria Park pond at St Thomas Aquinas school at 7pm on Thu 21 May - all welcome!

CycleHack Glasgow: the CycleHack Glasgow will take place from 19 to 21 June and will look to develop solutions that addresses a barrier to cycling and that retrospectively modifies current infrastructure and / or cycling products & services using a cyclist’s intuition.

MyPark Scotland launch: MyParkScotland will launch on 23 May 2015 to connect you to your park,  providing up to date information on park locations, facilities and what’s on. 

Public transport to the new South Glasgow Hospital: The South Glasgow University Hospital and Royal Hospital For Sick Children are now open. Find links and maps to help you to get to there.

Cash deposit scheme for drinks containers: A new report investigating the options for a refundable cash deposit for recycling drinks bottles and cans in Scotland has recently been released by Zero Waste Scotland.

Tackling fuel poverty: the Scottish Government recently announced a new scheme to help tackle fuel poverty which will launch in September..
