From the CEO

THANK you to everyone who came along on Monday night to support our Jewish athletes and volunteers at the Maccabi NSW Annual Jewish Sports Awards evening.

Due to the high calibre of nominees each year, it is always a tough decision to choose who takes home the trophy. Thank you very much to the judging panel for spending countless hours reviewing the nominees and pondering about who the winners should be.

To the winners - a hearty mazel tov to you! You should be very proud of yourselves and your phenomenal sporting achievements over the year.

For those that received nominations, but didn't win this year -  remember that it is still a massive honour to be a nominee as it highlights how much you have excelled in the past year. Keep it up and we look forward to seeing your achievements when next year's Awards' evening rolls around!

Meeting Mr Baird

OUR President, Danny Hochberg recently caught-up with Premier, Mike Baird, at the Communal Yom Ha’atzmaut Celebrations.

The Premier is a very likeable person who has a genuine interest in the welfare of our Jewish Community. In a short discussion he told us he was aware of Maccabi and very supportive of its role in the community.

We look forward working with the Premier and our local State Representative and Attorney General, Gabrielle Upton as they embark on a new term in Government.

Frank Lowy okay after fall

Sourced from J-Wire

FRANK Lowy appears to have survived his dramatic fall at Sunday’s A-League final.

He has issued a statement saying: “I want to thank everyone for the concern shown and support for me after my tumble at the Grand Final. I think everyone was as shocked as I was, but I’m grateful to be resting comfortably. I have a sore shoulder which might take some time to fully recover, but I should be OK."

Swimmers success on the Road

KEEPING a winter tradition, Maccabi Swimming is hitting the road this May. Last weekend saw the senior competition group trek up to Toronto (near Newcastle, not in Canada) and this weekend we go west – to a two day event in Orange.

Also on Sunday, our youngest club member traveled a little less for his racing fix: Jayden Finucane swam at the Ryde Carlile Development Meet. Jayden scored a trifecta of Personal Bests (PBs) in the 6 years 25 metre events, finishing first in the backstroke and third in the freestyle.

Maccabi Lakers couldn't quite get over the line - Basketball

By Daniel Lemish

FACING off against long-time rivals, and previous Grand Final opponents, Throwback Cheetahs, what was always going to be a tough game was made more difficult by the absence through injury of star young guard Marcel Ninio.

Despite the best defensive efforts of subs Josh Berg and Brad Nissen, Maccabi eventually went down 74-83 in a physical clash that threatened to explode.

Blues dealt another blow - Rugby

By Yehuda Aharon

HAVING suffered a massive loss to Clovelly the week prior, the Maccabi ‘Blues’ Rugby team was determined not to allow a repeat against Menai. The game was tough, with Maccabi making great start in the first half but were let down by their fitness in the second half of the game.

Will Maccabi be able to redeem themselves against Fairvale/Lansvale this coming week?

Come down to Lyne Park this Saturday to see Maccabi play Fairvale/Lansvale. Kick off is back to its regular time of 3:15pm.
