Guilford County PAGE Member Kick-Off Event at the Greensboro Science Center
Sunday, October 4, 2015
1-5 p.m. (first come, first serve)
Members and their families (120 total) will enjoy free admission, a PAGE welcome, and snack packs.  A group rate will be offered on SkyWild admission. 
 

Two Board Positions Available

Guilford County PAGE is seeking two adult volunteers to fill open board positions. Descriptions follow, and if you'd like to learn more, please contact Holly Stewart.

Family Programming Chair: Plans enriching, engaging and exciting activities for gifted students and their families.
Specific duties include:
  • Plan programming to meet the interest and needs of gifted students and their families (e.g., fall and spring programs)
  • Work with Communications Chair to survey member interests and promote programming
  • Serve as on-site coordinator for events and volunteers
  • Attend board and general meetings
  • Time commitment: A few hours each month

Advocacy Chair: Advocates on behalf of the needs of academically gifted students in Guilford County.
Specific duties include:
  • Monitor gifted issues at the local, state and national levels
  • Coordinate advocacy efforts with NCAGT (North Carolina Association for Gifted and Talented) as needed
  • Attend annual advocacy conference in Raleigh, if offered
  • Attend board meetings
  • Time commitment: 2 hours each month

Insights from Our 2015 Teacher Appreciation Week Winners

During Teacher Appreciation Week in May, we announced three winners of our nomination-driven contest: Brandy Jo Brehm (Gibsonville Elementary), Elizabeth Ellison (Academy at Lincoln Middle), and Amanda Stone (Grimsley High). Team Up: Explore Science and Sports @ SciWorx
Team Up examines the science of sports through 13 interactive components, encouraging visitors to test their skills at basketball, tennis, soccer, and football while learning about math and physics. Included with museum admission.

Food Truck State Championships
Food trucks from across North Carolina will converge on Randleman's Commerce Square for two days of juried competition in gourmet food of all types. Live music will be featured during both nights of the competition. Contact chamber43@northstate.net for more information.

Summer Solstice Festival
This 11th annual event is family-friendly and brings joy and wonderment to all ages! This day of merriment brings over 7,000 Triad citizens together on the longest day of the year. Don your faerie wings and glitter and meander through this midsummer night’s dream with us. Suggested Donation: $2/Person.

Star Wars Festival
Dress in your Star Wars best to complete our Training Academy and become a Jedi Knight. Meet costumed characters from the 501st Legion. Create puppets with glowing light sabers. The library will provide snacks, photo booth and more.
