A WINTER RED WE JUST HAD TO WRITE HOME ABOUT....

We interrupt our usual telecast to bring you another exciting bulletin. Every so often an Import comes along that we expect to back the truck up to. We have shown this in the past with Italian stars such as Gran Sasso and Aliotto, in France with gems such as the Le Chat Pinot Noir and now we bring you the next big thing out of Spain. Molino Loco, which translates as 'Crazy Windmill', aptly describes the windmill that stands alone at Bodegas Castano which isknown to move when there is not a breath of wind in the air. Monastrell, also known as Mourvedre (France) and Mataro (Australia), is planted widely in the Yecla, a South Easte region of Spain when the wine originates.
This is a wine that ticks all the right boxes. Its a food friendly wine with gentle tannin, and the perfect medium bodied beauty to warm up to on these cold (nearly) Winter nights. It's got layers of cherry, plum and a firm savoury overtone. It is ridiculous wine especially at this price point.
If there is ever a wine of this year that you need to get a hold of to tie up your mid week drinking, its this Spanish beauty.

Notes:
Bodegas Castaño was founded in the 1950s, initially providing fruit for other wineries before bottling under their own name in 1980. The estate is run by Ramón Castaño Santa and his three sons and comprises of 450 hectares of vineyard spread across four different sites with the DO Yecla. Though the estate has a selection of local and international varieties planted it specialises in the production of Monastrell and its wines have gained an excellent reputation for their high quality.
