GG BUZZ - ISSUE 8

Welcome to GG Buzz ...

Despite some gloriously mild and sunny autumn days there is no denying that we are nearing the first official day of winter!

Warming fires are being lit as the nights draw in but Go Geraldine has resisted the temptation to hibernate and instead has been taking stock, with a full scale strategic review, that the Board will share with members via a presentation at next week's AGM.

One of the key concepts that came out of the review, and which the Board felt most strongly about, is that Go Geraldine is here for the benefit of the town of Geraldine. Go Geraldine is an organisation of Geraldine, for Geraldine and run by Geraldine. It doesn't come much more local than that!

To ensure that the organisation remains relevant to the needs of the community, and its membership, it is vital that members engage - by attending Business At Six meetings, reading the BUZZ, communicating with GG when they have thoughts and opinions and coming along to the AGM!

SCCC Business Excellence Awards:

The South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards has now opened for 2015 nominations. There are a variety of categories from small to large business and even community organisations.

The entry process has been streamlined to make it easier than ever before to enter and workshops will be held around the region to assist potential entrants with the process. There will be a session held in Geraldine on Thursday 4th June.

Recognition at the Awards offers a wonderful chance to promote your business or organisation and to build a reputation in your field - do take a few moments to check out the Awards and consider the benefits to your organisation by entering.

Important Information for Members!

Aoraki Development, Business and Tourism, Transition: Members are advised that Go Geraldine Coordinator, Janene Adams, has taken up a part time, fixed term position at ADBT to support the transition process currently taking place in that organisation.

Go Geraldine and ADBT have always enjoyed a cordial and productive relationship. In the past Go Geraldine has provided support to ADBT on various tourism related projects for the benefit of Geraldine, while ADBT has been generous with its knowledge and support of GG activities. So it is with pleasure that Go Geraldine is able to continue its links with ADBT during this change.

Janene is also still fulfilling her role for Go Geraldine, in a limited capacity for the duration of the ADBT role. She is available by phone and email for any queries etc.

Events Geraldine Calendar: Make sure you are up with the play on the happenings around town this month by checking out the Events Geraldine events calendar.

Got an event to promote? Did you know that Go Geraldine has a variety of resources to assist with the promotion of local events? From listing your event on the Go Geraldine website events calendar through to giving it a 'shout out' on the Tuesday morning radio slot on Port FM.

Each Tuesday morning at around 10.40 am on Port FM, Janene chats to DJ Sam about the events and happenings in Geraldine over the next 7 days. Tune in to find out the places to be and things to do in Geraldine!

This Sunday's Pink Ribbon Breakfast (poster above) and the upcoming Meadow Mushrooms Ukefes t (poster below left) are perfect examples of local events that Go Geraldine can help to promote.

Go Geraldine AGM

By now all members will have received, by email, the agenda and various reports for the AGM to be held next Tuesday, 26th May, at the Orchard Farmshop and Café.

Go Geraldine is your organisation, working for the benefit of Geraldine and its members. The AGM is a chance to find out what has been happening during the year and to provide direct feedback to the Board.

Most recently the Board have been conducting a strategic review of the organisation that stems from the organisational objectives right down to the activities it undertakes to meet those objectives.

There will be a presentation during the AGM outlining the review and an opportunity for members to provide feedback on both the process and the proposed future direction of the organisation.

The Board strongly encourages members to attend, both to show support of the organisation and to contribute to its future. Hope to see you there!
