WEEK OF MAY 11TH - MAY 16TH
Hello everyone!
5 Things You Need to Know This Week
1. Wellness Updates
Donnelle Storrs, a Wesley Nurse from Methodist Healthcare Ministries who regularly volunteers at the Clubhouse, will be leading workshop on Building Healthy Relationships. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 13th at 1:30 PM in the Fitness Center. In addition, Laughter Yoga will be returning to the Clubhouse on Fridays, at 11:30 AM. This type of yoga uses laughter to alleviate stress. Clubhouse has offered Laughter Yoga in the past and is bringing it back as it is a low intensity, stress reduction workout.
2. Texas Clubhouse Gathering in Halletsville
On Friday, May 15th, all Texas Clubhouses will gather in Hallettsville for a team-building day where colleagues can get to know one another. There will be outdoor activities such as basketball, four square, and other games. San Antonio Clubhouse will join Austin Clubhouse, St Joseph Clubhouse, and Legacy Clubhouse for this fun annual event. Plan to meet at the North Central location at 8 AM Friday and we will return by 4 PM. If you are interested, please sign up in the activities sign up board as we need a head count for the fabulous lunch that will be served.
3. June Planning Meetings
Interested in having input into our social events? The Social Event Planning meeting for June is on May 14th at 11:30 AM. During a social planning meeting, members can help decide where we go on Tuesday evenings and Saturdays. If you have a suggestion, be sure to attend; where we go and what we do is decided by consensus at the meeting.
4. Mental Health Awareness Week
The goal of Mental Health Awareness Week is to end the inequalities that face people experiencing mental health problems, living with learning disabilities, or reduced mental capacity. This week, we work to raise awareness for the challenges people living with mental illness face. If you interested in getting involved be sure to pick up some ambassador cards and spread the word about Clubhouse.
5. TE Positions Open
If you are looking for work, there are a couple of TE positions open in the community. The first is with Taco Taco, and is a buser position, located on:
145 E Hildebrand Ave
San Antonio, TX 78212
The second is with Torchy's Tacos. Torchy's Tacos has hired many of our people in the past. In addition, we have an option of supported employment positions with them as well. Torchy's Tacos is located at:
999 E Basse Rd
San Antonio, TX 78209
Notes from the House Meeting
Topic 1: Instead of having a house meeting every week, we would consider meeting every other week if there weren't any pressing agenda items. In addition, policies decided on during house meetings would remain in effect for 3 months.
The group talked about the importance of house meetings, referring to standard 36:
The Clubhouse holds open forums and has procedures which enable members and staff to actively participate in decision making, generally by consensus, regarding governance, policy making, and the future direction and development of the Clubhouse.
House meetings do not always have topics to discuss every week, and at other Clubhouses, there is not a House Meeting unless it is needed. At those Clubhouses, House Meeting attendance is high.
We also talked about the duration of how long a policy should be in effect. Some felt that 3 months was too long and wanted to change the time period to 2 months.
The group decided to table the discussion for next week.
Other Notes:
Everyone is strongly encouraged to go to the dining room for lunch at 12:00pm sharp- not any earlier (unless the Culinary and Dining Unit is your home base). Please check back with your unit after you’ve enjoyed snacks in the dining room before lunch. Remember, your unit needs you! The standard that supports this is listed below:
18. The Clubhouse is organized into one or more work units, each of which has sufficient staff, members and meaningful work to sustain a full and engaging work-ordered day. Unit meetings are held to foster relationships as well as to organize and plan the work of the day.
Announcement: The Clubhouse opens at 8 AM during the week and at 10 AM on Saturdays. For safety reasons, we suggest that folks arrive close to those times. In addition, members and staff are encouraged to be on the lookout for unfamiliar faces in or around the Clubhouse. While there have not been any issues, it is important that all visitors to the Clubhouse sign in at the Reception Desk and leave their full name, address, phone number and e-mail address if they have one. It is also important that all visitors be accompanied by a staff or a staff and a member.
Announcement: Members and Staff should park along the north side of the building leaving the spaces in front for visitors.
Announcement: Wellness Unit would like everyone to know that meal tickets will now sell out of the Snack Bar window.
Announcement: Please do not alter Meal Tickets sold. Please see Snack Bar staff if you need to change your purchase prior to 11:45 AM.
