A Special Word from Bishop Grote

NEPAL APPEAL

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

In cooperation with the call for financial appeal from Archbishop Beach, I am calling for all of our Reformed Episcopal Parishes to make a special collection on May 31, for emergency relief in Nepal.

I would remind our Reformed Episcopal brothers and sisters that the Deanery of Nepal is a special partner with the Reformed Episcopal Church. We have been in that relationship for several years and have sent pastors to Nepal to help train clergy. Now, our dear brothers and sisters in Nepal especially need our help. Please read Archbishop Foley’s appeal letter and then act upon it. God’s people really do need your help at this time.

As you therefore have opportunity, do good to all men, especially, to those who are of the household of faith.   Galatians 6:10

Faithfully in Christ’s Service,

The Most Rev. Royal U Grote, Jr
Presiding Bishop

Update: Second Earthquake Hits Nepal

Another massive earthquake hit Nepal today causing new landslides, collapsed buildings, and terrible suffering for a nation already  overwhelmed by disaster.

Please join with us as we reflect the love of Christ in the midst of this tragedy.

ARDF - US and CANADA

Beloved in the Lord,

In addition to serving as Archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America, I have the distinct honor of serving as President of The Anglican Relief and Development Fund.  It is with a heavy heart that I ask you to prayerfully consider giving to help our Anglican brothers and sisters in Nepal who have experienced devastating loss.

An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude hit Nepal on April 25 just before noon (local time). More than 8,000 lives have been lost and many more thousands have been injured.

We have just learned that another earthquake of 7.3 magnitude struck Nepal today, May 12th, resulting in further landslides and collapsed buildings. At least one thousand more people have been injured and many more lives lost due to this further tragedy.

Roads are impassable, hospitals are overcrowded and people are in despair; thousands have lost their homes and loved ones; there are shortages of food, water and shelter, and their future looks bleak.

This is a summary of the current state of affairs from the Rev. Lewis Lew, Dean of the Anglican Church of Nepal:
  • 18 of our Anglican Church buildings destroyed.
  • More than 8,000 homes in Anglican communities destroyed.
  • More than 30,000 in these areas are displaced.
  • Many are still in need of temporary shelter, food supplies and medical aid.
  • 78 among the Anglican community have died, including Pastor Laxman, whom I had ministered together with him in his village just a month ago. We miss him.
We need your prayers, for myself and the clergy team from Singapore, and for our brethren in the Anglican Church in Nepal:
  • The medical and crisis relief workers.
  • Coordination of water, food and temporary shelters.
  • The Nepalese as they brave this catastrophe and the coming monsoon season.
  • The Anglican Church in Nepal, that it will shine for Christ in this difficult time.
As Archbishop of this Church, I am asking that each parish would receive a special offering on Sunday, May 31st and to send those funds to Anglican Relief and Development Fund-US or Anglican Relief and Development Fund-Canada.

U.S. parishes should direct gifts to ARDF-US:

Anglican Relief and Development Fund US

And Canadian parishes should direct gifts to  ARDF-Canada:

Anglican Relief and Development Fund Canada
c/o Box 1013
Burlington, ON, L7R 4L8.

Your gift will go to the Anglican Church in Nepal and assist them in the long task ahead of rebuilding their lives, their ministries and their communities.

Your brother in Christ,

The Most Rev. Dr. Foley Beach
Archbishop, Anglican Church in North America
President, Anglican Relief and Development Fund

How You Can Get Involved:

1. Pray:

Compassionate God, draw near to our brothers and sisters in Nepal in this time of sorrow and anguish, comfort those who mourn, strengthen those who are weary, encourage those in despair, and lead us all to fullness of life; through the same Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.  Amen.

Bishops Grote & Beach meet with FCE Bishops
On April 20, 2015 Presiding Bishop Royal Grote and Archbishop Foley Beach visited with the Bishops of the Free Church of England in London. The purpose of this visit was to introduce our sister Church, the FCE, to the Archbishop. A lively and meaningful discussion of the Anglican situation in England was held. All came away with a sense of gratefulness to God for the oneness that we share in Christ Jesus. It is hoped that in the future, we can have further discussions as we endeavor to work toward the goal of maintaining and advancing a world-wide faithful Anglican witness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Ascension of our Lord
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
