Staff to the FamilY Partnerships Network
As you may know, the AAP Board of Directors established the Family Partnerships Network (FPN) in May 2014. The FPN is designed to be a resource for Academy members regarding the importance of patient and family-centered care and the roles for families in health care.
Another role of the FPN is to provide a virtual community for family partners who are involved in Academy initiatives to receive orientation and mentorship, and to have a mechanism by which they are able to provide peer support and share best practices/lessons learned.
At this time, we would like to invite any family partners that are formally engaged in your respective Chapters to join the FPN. Currently, the FPN includes representatives from CA, CT, IA, IL, IN, KS, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NM, NY, OR, SC, SD, TX, UT, and WA. It is hoped that by joining the FPN, your family partners will have a broader understanding of the Academy’s efforts related to family engagement, and will have an additional source of support and mentorship among a community of family partners.
The time commitment for your family partners will be minimal, as the FPN will communicate primarily via an email listserv, as well as optional quarterly conference calls/Webinars. One example of a future Webinar topic is best practices and strategies for providing effective family input in AAP work (ie. Committee/Section/Council and Chapter activities).
Please feel free to contact Sunnah Kim (AAP staff to the FPN) at skim@aap.org should you have any questions, or if you are interested in connecting with the family partners from your state who are currently engaged in the FPN.
