Match Reports for 9th May
Premier Grade Report
Awesome day for our Premier Team knocking off the highly fancied and undefeated Cottesloe at their home ground 18 to 17 who were on top of the ladder. Outstanding effort from the Joondy boys as they stayed positive and played the 80 minutes with guts and self-belief. Our scrum matched and bettered their's which had a strong Western Force representation. We trailed by 6 with 2 minutes to go. Scrum time 35 metres out and our feed, set play, try in the corner. Still down by 1 point with a very tough conversion to come into the wind and from the touch line! Jowy steps up and boom! We win by 1. Man of the Match Adam Gregory.
Under 6 White
The under 6 Joondalup white team had a great round 2 at north coast. There were plenty of smiles and giggles a great sign all boys are enjoying their time at rugby. Derek and Alby do a great job encouraging the boys and particularly trying to get them to run the right way.
Under 6 Red
On Saturday 9 May the U6 Red team played against Wanneroo Red team.  What a game! These little youngsters showed us some promising talent.  This was their first real game and although the game started with a lot of confusion and some running to the opponents side, they soon upped their game making it hard for the opposing team to get over the try-line. There were a lot of tries scored by our Red team, making the parents very proud. This was a good win for the Reds' coach, Andries Botha, who is with the Brothers for the first time! Congratulations to James for being the player of the match!
Under 6 Blue
The boys had a great time at their first offical game on the weekend and by the end looked like they were getting the hang of the rules. A few good tries were scored along with some great runs, tags and kicks. There were smiles all round from both the players and parents. Thanks to all the family and friends who came to cheer them along, bring on next weeks game against Wanneroo!
Under 8 Blue
This week we took on Wanneroo White and the boys did a fantastic job of keeping them at bay, but eventually going down 4-3. Tries were scored by Christian(2) and Connor and our Man of the Match went to Nico. Its great to see how enthused the boys are this season. It makes for very exciting sideline viewing!
With a successful start to the season it is a good opportunity to appreciate all the hard work that goes into running the Joondalup Brothers. In addition to the volunteer work we also rely on our sponsors who provide the finance that allows us to continue as a club, their support have also allowed us to field a side in the premier grade. If would be great if members of JBRUFC could keep this in mind when they are thinking about purchasing a product the our sponsors supply and support our sponsors where possible. In addition to that, we are currently looking for a sponsor for our juniors along with ‘club supporter’ sponsors. If anyone knows of a business looking to support the local community please contact me on 0428 742 716 or sponsorship@joondalupbrothers.com so I can follow up.

Under 9 White
After a slow start last weekend the boys were fired up to make an instant impact on this week's game against Wests Maroon. The boys started slowly but amped up the volume during the first half, running and tackling hard and although their passing wasn't up to scratch they made some good ground. This year is already looking more physical, with the hard hitting Wests, being very combative. Fortunately, the Brothers were more than a match and showed a real team effort in wrestling the ball back. Man of the Match went to Ruiz for some super tackling and movement around the pitch. Congratulations, Ruiz. Go Brothers

Under 9
This week saw the Blues play North Coast.  After a disappointing loss last week the Brothers were keen to come bouncing back. They started the game strong and North Coast defended well but it was only a matter of time before the Brothers broke the defence and Jackson crossed over for the Brothers first try. This was not going to be easy and North Coast hit back immediately with the equalising try. Brothers showed their resilience and quickly hit back with tries from Edward and Kieran taking the half time score to 3 tries to 1.
North Coast continued to defend well in the second half and beat the Brothers to the break down winning the rucks, but some excellent tackling from Fraser kept North Coast out. The Brothers continued to show great team effort and secured a great win with Kieran (scoring a hat trick), Fraser and Jackson all crossing the line.  Man of the Match went to Fraser for his excellent tackling and great work in the rucks.  Well done Blues
Under 9 Red
On Saturday the Reds played yet another outstanding game.  They called in a few subs, as 4 players of our team were out and about and some injured, but this didn't stop the Red Force! It was a tough game, but the Reds game out on top at the end, making it really hard for the opposing team to get over the try-line.  The were some good tackles from our team and a few excellent tries! Player of the match went to Jordan who played a hard game. Keep the positive enery boys and well done!

Under 10 Black
Right from kickoff it was clear that the boys were going to have to call on all of the skills and knowledge learnt at training to get it over a very tough and large Wanneroo Black side. Our boys got off to a great start scoring a try in the first few minutes. The match was very evenly contested with the scrums having to give their best just to stop the opposition from advancing. Some fantastic tackles were made as well as long runs out wide. It went down to the wire with our Blacks/Joeys scoring a try in the dying seconds resulting in a win. We’re very proud of all of the boys for never giving up, right ‘till the very end.

Under 10 Red
The U10-Reds played their second game of the season against Perth Bayswater. After starting the season with a comfortable and impressive 7-1 win over Wanneroo Black, this opponent presented a different challenge (in terms of size). Despite the obvious physical difference between the teams, the Reds held their ground well in the first half to go into the break 2-1 down (a pre-try celebration prevented the Brothers ending the half 2-2 as the player unfortunately got too excited and dropped the ball over the try line). However the tank soon ran dry and Baysie scored another 6 times to the Brothers 2. Man of the match was awarded to Josh Whittingham for his very high work rate and the numerous cover tackles that kept the scoreline presentable.

Under 11 Gold
Our U11 Gold boys followed up game 1 with a gutsy win against our arch rivals Wanneroo in round 2.  After a slow and cautious start to the game the boys found their mojo and showed some real guts and fight to eventually run away with the result. Boys like “Machine”, “Ritchie” and “Power” never flinched against the bigger Wanneroo forwards, while “Keag's”, “Blitz” and the “Wind” left them for dust on route to the try line. A very gutsy performance by the team as a whole, well done Golds.
Final score : 38 -12
Tries by: “Keag’s” (2), “Chief”, “Mr T”, “Blitz” and “Wind”
Man of the Match: Keag’s Montgomery
Our boys are building nicely as a team but we also need to keep a look out for our Brothers in the Swans team. Let’s encourage and help those boys where we can. Our entire U11 squad needs to stand together as a unit....that's what Brothers do.

Under 12 Gold
Joondalup Brothers Gold 36 Wanneroo 26, 9th May 2015
This home fixture against Wanneroo was always going to be a challenge after last year’s battle which led to Wanneroo winning the league by one point, brothers had an old score to settle! The first half kicked off and is was evident that the home side had been changed since the opening trial match, also managing to gain an home advantage much to the disbelief of the brothers, it was a hard first half battle but the brothers managed the following scores Mitch x1, Kobi x1, Austin x1 and Ben x1 Wanneroo are a well-trained side though and had a couple of key players whom seem to have the necessary skills to break the brothers defence making the first half score Brothers 20 Wanneroo 12 – conversions were taken by Kobi which were very difficult managing to slot three over.
The second half kicked off and now the fitness of the brothers was starting to take advantage of the game, a couple more tries from Austin x1 and Ryan McGloin x1 gave the brothers a greater lead, the gap was closed though by Wanneroo when their dynamic full back sailed through for a couple of tries making the score 36 to 26 Fortunately the brother finished the game with a 10 point lead but this was always going to be a hard battle. For the second week running the MVP was awarded again to young Tain for his courage in the tackle!

Under 12 Swan
JB U12s Swan 26, UWA 26.
The JBROS opened their round 2 game against UWA by conceding an early try. But their forward had a bit of bite in them and locks Aaron & Ethan scored a brace to make it 12-14. On halftime, a Brothers counter attack found Dale on the wing for an 80m run in for a 19-14 lead at the break.
Joondalup dominated in the forwards and added another try courtesy of Brett. With time running out, UWA brought the score back to 26-21 followed by a try at the death to equal the scores.

Under 17 Swan
U 17’s Swan’s went into the match on the back of an impressive victory last time out & confidence was high. Brothers had the early pressure following some excellent positional kicking by fly half Aiden Smyth but Wanneroo returned in kind and from the ensuing pressure were awarded several soft penalties and we ended up trailing 6-0 at the break. Second half saw an increase in urgency at the ruck as we started using numbers at the breakdown we started to gain the ascendancy which led to a terrific team  try  finished by  Aiden Smyth who went on to convert 6 -7. Wanneroo hit back after a kick down field and the following dubious penalties awarded at the breakdown went over for the try 11-7. Wanneroo were next to score after Swan lost a player due to transgressions at the breakdown and from the 5mt mark forced their way over 16-7. This put a match to the lads and the pressure was all ours with penetrating runs from Kyle Stray and Trae Kennedy, this ultimately ended in a try from one of the U15’s Luke Bolton who along with Shaun Phillips & Joe Howard who kindly benched for us Saturday and  all 3 lads contributed when asked to take the field. With 7 minutes left to play and Joondalup Swan looking the better the whistle blew bringing the game to a premature end and victory to Wanneroo 16-12.

Under 17 Gold
Brothers U17’s gold started off tentatively and after the initial cautious moments got stronger going  up and down the field, the ball eventually going wide to Josh Commins who steamed down the sideline & delivered the perfect inside pass to Liam Gourlie for the first try. Sam Commins converted. Sustained pressure from our forwards resulted in a scrum penalty and Sam Commins converted. Some terrible defensive errors saw Rocky get a try under the posts, converted for a half time score 10 -7. After some exacting words from the coaches at the break, the second half commenced with our forwards again dominating, which allowed Liam Gourlie to gain his and Gold’s 2nd try. Sam Commins converted. With unrelenting forwards pressure Victor Harris scored as a result of his pick and drive, fly half Emgee Fourie converted. 24 – 7. Gold received a yellow card for repeated team infringement at the ruck. Nevertheless even with a 7 man scrum, brothers still dominated the forwards battle & with good go forward ball Matt de Beer went over for the fourth try of the day. Sam Commins converted. 31 – 7. With the last few minutes remaining centre Zach Oothuizen sliced through the Rockingham’s defence and offloaded to Meli Robaro to score in the corner, conversion unsuccessful. 36 –7 final score.
