Message from the Chairman

Dear friends,

As we usher in the festival of Shavuot, the Jewish people are witnessing a dramatic and frightening rise in anti-Semitic crimes and rhetoric.

The struggle against the virus of Jewish-hatred, rampant in Europe and around the world,  is becoming more complex and more difficult.

Here, at home, there are disturbing trends and signs of an ever increasing radicalism, anti-Semitism and intolerance.

As it has done for the last 36 years, the ADC never stands idly by.

Each and every day, we roll up our sleeves, helping the victims, keeping a watchful eye on the bigots and the Holocaust deniers, and building new bridges of understanding and trust.

Through our innovative and highly successful Click Against Hate program, offered free to all Victorian schools, we are changing hearts and minds, cutting off the poisonous weed of hate at the root.

Still, there is much work to be done and a long way to go before we fully realise our vision.

The ADC, standing at the forefront, knows that the evil of anti-Semitism is unceasing.

Our vigorous advocacy, outreach, publications, and educational initiatives are as critical today as they have ever been.

We are continuously guided by the invaluable lesson taught in the Ethics of the Fathers, “In a place where there are no men (leaders), strive to be a man (leader).”

As Chairman, I know that we cannot carry on this fight alone.

The ADC is immensely fortunate to have many friends who believe in our mission and who are committed to our cause.

I’d like to thank all the supporters of the ADC, whose steadfast  trust and backing  enable us to effectively address the daunting challenges that lie ahead, and  to make our voice forcefully heard.

Together, they are helping us create a proud legacy for future generations.

Wishing you and your family a joyous Chag samech.

Dvir Abramovich

John and Ravit Walys

We have seen first-hand the incredible work of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission and wholeheartedly believe that they are one of the most effective organisations in the world today fighting anti-Semitism. Their dedication and resolve to counter the vilification of the Jewish people and to stand up for the community is profound and inspiring.

We call on everyone who is interested in keeping the ADC strong to join us and to become a key supporter and partner. In our view,  it is vital that
the ADC  has the resources it needs to act swiftly and decisively whenever and wherever anti-Semitism arises and to sustain its transformative and empowering educational project Click Against Hate— one of the most creative  and  principled initiatives we have come across. We are proud to be associated with the ADC and to affirm our commitment to their vision of fostering a more welcoming, inclusive and diverse society.

CLICK AGAINST HATE

The Click against Hate program continues to go from strength to strength.

In the past three weeks we have taken on 10 new schools across metropolitan Melbourne with many more interested in timetabling the program.

Feedback continues to be outstanding.

Please read what some of the teachers have written:

Valkstone Primary School
Matthew Ware – Grade 6 Teacher
I would just like to say on behalf of Valkstone Primary School that I was most impressed with Brett and the many very important messages that he presented to our children today.

Brett was an engaging and entertaining facilitator. I know the children took some key learning points from his sessions, as did I and the other teachers who observed them.

Thanks for taking the time to visit us Brett. We look forward to your visit next year.

'Click against Hate' is a well-designed, educational presentation which clarifies for our students the distinction between freedom of speech and all forms of discrimination such as racism, vilification, bullying and stereotyping. What really keeps our students 'glued' to the presenter are her personal and topical stories of discrimination and the way they were resolved.

Students are made aware of discrimination in all forms of media, on the net, in political cartoons and in daily life. They are taught not to just accept what is put before them, but to sit up and think, to be critical thinkers and then they are given meaningful ways in which they can act upon discrimination when they encounter it.

At every presentation, our written feedback shows that students have their eyes opened to the power within them to stand up against discrimination in all its forms.
