Church News

27th April 2015

Why do so many people seem to carry so much baggage? The baggage of things like past failings, hurts, experiences or regrets. Baggage that we often keep hold of and carry around with us, that often stops us from living the life that God intended. On Sunday Emily spoke on Hebrews 12:1-3 which says:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

She spoke to us very clearly about the fact that God does not want us to be carrying around guilt and shame from the past. God wants us to learn from the past and to then surrender it entirely to Him, so that we can move on with Him to lead the life that he has always intended for us.

I particularly liked the illustration she used in that enemy "leaves out little packets of baggage for us to pick up along our walk of life, to try and weigh us down and stop us from reaching out to God". She encouraged  us to not take up these parcels, and to just lay them at the foot of the Cross. "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest" is the invite from Jesus. He does not want us to carry a ton of heavy burdens and baggage. He wants to give us rest. He wants to take our worries, and troubles, and fears away from us, and all we have to do is let Him.

So, will you let Him do this for you today? Maybe there's something that you're carrying... that you've been carrying for years. My prayer for you today is that you can come to the foot of the cross and lay it down right now, because God wants to take it from you. He wants you to be free.

Have a great week. See you Wednesday at Prayer and Praise!
