Dear <<First Name>>,

Spring is always a busy time for us with preparing the gardens, planting, and interviewing youth for the Summer WorkReady Program.

We have volunteer opportunities to share, stories about Urban Seminar and youth gardening, an exciting announcement, and more in this month's Noticias!
Youth joined Marian in El Batey garden to help plant the tomato seedlings they prepared back on Earth Day. The youth explored tasting vegetables fresh from the garden and planted over 80 tomato seedlings. This summer, Marian and Gabriela are excited to connect youth in our Summer Work Ready program with the gardens Latino culture, and green spaces in our community.
On May 19th we were joined by 200 volunteers from local universities including Penn State, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, West Chester University, and many others for a morning of volunteering in the NSNP gardens and other organizations including West Kensington Ministry and Norris Square Community Alliance. It was a beautiful day and Bomberos de la Calle played an energizing performance in front of the casita.
As an organization in Latino community, it's important to us to grow foods that community residents can use in their kitchens. It is difficult to germinate seeds for ajíces, gandules, and other important produce without a place to do it.

To teach youth about seed germination and sustainability and to grow more culturally relevant produce for our community, we're launching a crowdfunding campaign to build a passive solar greenhouse in El Batey garden through Hispanics in Philanthropy’s HIPGive2Health program in partnership with Univision

We’re raising $8,000 to create an "earthship-style" greenhouse with our youth and community residents.

The campaign launches on June 9th at
www.hipgive.org .

Please donate or share the campaign with your friends!

Every dollar helps us build a greenhouse for our community.
We have a couple upcoming volunteer opportunities in June that we hope that you'll join us for:
  • Saturday, June 13th - Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden Work Day - Time TBD
    • Volunteers to help create new garden space with Teaching Artist Pedro Ospina on Philip St.
  • Saturday, June 20th Community Garden Day:  10AM - 3PM
    • 2-3 Volunteers to Support Youth Art Activities in the Gardens for Neighborhood Garden Trust's Community Garden Day. Bilingual volunteers strongly preferred for this opportunity.
If you are are interested in helping out, please email us by June 11th at the email volunteer@myneighborhoodproject.org. Thank you for supporting NSNP!
