Behind the Scenes of "Mercy Street"
The transformation of Petersburg offers a step back in time as filming of the PBS series, Mercy Street, continues to bring a flurry of activity to the area. Recent filming sites include exteriors in Old Towne. It takes numerous people and multifaceted skills to make such a production come to life. The production company employs a crew of 126 highly skilled workers to carry out the transformation needed to prepare the sets. Perhaps two of the most important jobs in a making a successful film are the Location Manager/Scout and the Construction Manager.
Petersburg is fortunate to have many amenities, sites, and facilities conducive to production and filming. With all of its challenges, these locations bring positive attention to the City's many treasures.

Petersburg Animal Care & Control
Meet Animal Control Officer J. Aponte and Virginia! Virginia is a reverse tuxedo marked cat in white and black. Officer Aponte took her in after her owner could not longer care for her. Virginia is a snuggler and loves to be handled. Only nine months old, she would make a wonderful house companion for someone looking for a love bug couch potato!
Officer Aponte is the senior squad officer for Petersburg Animal Care and Control. She and her family live in the city and have three dogs and one cat. She wants to remind everyone that residents are allowed to own five cats in the city. If those cats live outside, they must be spayed or neutered. All cat owners in the city must have a valid rabies vaccination for each of their feline family members. Cats should also have all the feline preventative vaccinations to help protect them from contracting diseases like feline leukemia and aids from unvaccinated cats and interactions with wildlife. Outdoor cats are wanderers and every precaution should be taken to protect them from injury.
Click here to view all PACC pets. PACC hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m., Friday from Noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Appointments are also available by calling (804) 732-3654.
