Aspiring Authors Workshop 
Monday June 1st  from 3:30-4:30pm
Who: Students in grades 8th – 12th
Where: Olean Public Library’s Conference Room
When: Every first Monday @ 3:30pm
 
If you have a serious writing habit and would like to take it to the next level, come check out our monthly writing group. Bring your latest writing project from any genre, either short story or novel length, and learn how to edit, write better descriptions, create more realistic characters, and get tips on how to prepare for publishing. We will share work with the group, so prepare to read aloud, or to have work read silently by a peer for editing and advice. This will be a working session, so bring paper/pen, laptop, or tablet. No signup necessary.

Minecraft Club
Tuesdays June 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 3:30-5pm
Compete in weekly building challenges. Open to school-aged children. Players my bring their own device or use a library laptop.


Stock Car Racing in the ‘50s
Thursday June 4th at 3pm
Longtime Friendship resident Fordus(Ford) Easton who grew up in Friendship in the 40's and 50's and now lives in St. Petersburg, FL has written a book titled "Stock Car racing in the '50s" with pictures and memories of those involved in WNY and NWPA racing. The book covers 48 tracks that operated during the period in the two areas of NY and PA. The book also includes many stories and information with photos of the drivers and their cars in action during those exciting days of stock car racing many of us remember with such fond memories from years ago.
 
Mr. Easton will introduce his book and talk about the early days of stock car racing which historically helped lay the groundwork for NASCAR racing. Mr. Easton will have copies of his book available for purchase for $15.


Olean Area Crochet & Knitting Group
Thursday June 4th at 6:30pm
Bring your current project and a snack to share.  Decaf coffee is provided.  All ages and all type of crafters welcome.  Beginners are welcome!  More info at:  yarn14760.wordpress.com/

Free Blood Pressure and Body Fat Analysis Screenings
Monday June 8th from 10am – 12pm
An employee of Olean General Hospital will be here to offer free blood pressure and body fat analysis screenings from 10am-12pm.

Friends of the Olean Library Annual Meeting
Monday June 8th at 5:30pm
In the Conference Room.  All are welcome to attend! 



Brown Bag Book Club – “China Dolls” by Lisa See
Tuesday June 16th from 12:30-1:30pm
Bring your lunch and come and discuss the book. Beverages and dessert provided by Friends of the Olean Library, Inc.

Communicating Online I
Thursday June 18th from 10:30am-12:00pm
Taught in person at the library.  In this lesson participants will learn:
- the basics of email
- how to spot SPAM email and how to handle it
- the basics of social networks
 
*Prerequisites: Participants need to know how to use a mouse and how to open and close computer programs, and have some familiarity with the internet.*

Adult Summer Reading Begins! 
Monday June 22nd
Come to the Reference Desk, fill out your registration card, and pick up your reading log booklet. Adult Summer Reading will run from June 22nd until August 21st.

Craft Tuesday: Basic Quilling
Tuesday June 23rd 12:30-2pm
Learn basic quilling techniques. Participants will go home with a card similar to what was made in the Victorian era. Space is limited and sign up is required. Call or stop by the Circulation Desk at (716) 372-0200 to register.


Friends & Family CPR Training 
Wednesday June 24th 10am – 12pm, 1-3pm, or 5-7pm
Taught by a representative of Olean General Hospital, Friends & Family CPR is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card.  This course is ideal for new parents, grandparents, babysitters, and others interested in learning how to save a life.  Infant, child, and adult CPR along with AED training are covered.  Space is limited.  Sign up for one of the three times by contacting Carol at (716) 372-0200 or emailing ckowalik@oleanlibrary.org.
 

Communicating Online II
Thursday June 25th 10:30am-12pm
Taught in person at the library. After a brief review of Communicating Online I, participants will learn how to successfully use the internet to complete online forms such as job applications, tax forms, etc.

Mini Comic Con 
Saturday June 27th 11am -3pm
Join us at the Olean Public Library as we kick off the Summer Reading Program with our version of a Mini Comic Con. There will be events and activities for all ages. Alfred University's Art Force Five will be here with a large comic book display, superhero themed crafts and a creativity workshop. Also available will be crafts and activities representing classic comic book superheroes, Star Wars and Doctor Who. For video game fans there will be a chance to meet competitive gamer Mason Cramer who holds several world records on Atari and NES
