This Sunday at WUU: May 31, 2015

9:15am** & 11:15am
Rev. Jennifer Ryu
"Am I Still a Minister?"

I've been surprised that people ask me if I’m still going to be a minister after I leave WUU.   Ministry is more than a job--even more than an adventure.  It is a life-long commitment to something greater than my own ego-needs, and that means that we are all able to engage in ministry.

**This is the last day of the 2-services schedule.  Starting on June 7th, we will switch to a summer schedule.

Religious Education:

"Coming of Age and Bridging Ceremony"

This annual All-Ages service features the five middle-schoolers who have completed this year's Coming of Age class.  We are also honoring one graduating high school senior.

Today is also New Member Sunday where we formally welcome all those who signed the book this year.

Share the Plate for June
The entire plate collection on Sunday, June 7, will be donated to Housing Partnerships, a locally-funded non-profit agency that provides vital housing repair services to low-income, sick or disabled individuals and families in the Historic Triangle.  A number of WUUs have volunteered many hours of labor to make our neighbors' homes more livable but there is an ongoing need for these services to keep people "safe, warm, and dry." Please be generous!

11:30 am The Annual End of Fiscal Year Congregational Meeting
immediately following the worship service.  At this time, Reverend Jennifer will give her final report to the congregation about the state of our ministries and what we have accomplished throughout the past year.  Lola Warren, the Board President, will share updates on the building, finances, personnel and new initiatives as we look to Vision 2017.  Dave Banks, as Treasurer, will present the 2015-16 budget.  Among us attending the meeting will be our incoming Interim Minister, the Rev. David Johnson.  Please attend to meet

June 6 - SJ Work Project South of the James
Instead of traveling all the way to WV we’ll be heading south of the James on several weekends this summer. The first workday, on June 6th, we’ll be joining another group for an all-day male-only project. We’ll meet at WUU at 7:15am to carpool and will return back to WUU before 9pm that evening. We’ll be building a lean-to-greenhouse, installing small greenhouses from kits and building a small garden shed. To avoid the heat, we’ll work very early, take a break mid-day and continue the project in the afternoon. Please contact David Wilcox at sjChair@wuu.org if you would like to help out. Males of all ages are welcome!

Food For FISH (Our local community food & clothing pantry)
Our FISH wagon has returned and is waiting to be filled full of pasta and tomato sauce!  This is an easy, popular and filling meal.  Thank you for your generosity, and make sure to check freshness labels.

Sunday, June 14, sanctuary, 11:30-1:30 (light lunch included)
Auntie Mame once said money is like fertilizer: it doesn't help things grow till you spread it around. If money can help things grow, it can contribute to life—and to our spiritual quest. Please join us for the second workshop exploring money from a spiritual perspective. How does money affect our relationships with others? With ourselves? In our congregation and our local community? And even with people abroad? No need to have taken the first workshop to participate fully in the second. Sponsored by the Stewardship Committee. Childcare available with advance registration.  Please register here.
