Village Writers ~ Stronger & Better Together
Your Author's Platform

The Village Writing School is excited to be partnering with Jacqueline Wolven to address the important topic of building a platform and branding yourself as an author. This is an important part of publishing today and a strong platform will tip the scales on whether you are chosen by an agent or publisher.

Jackie has taught blogging for us before, but now she will expand her program into branding, platform building, and social media. She will be teaching for us once a month.

So who is this person with the personal slogan:  DO GOOD WORK ?

She lives in a 600-square-foot cottage across a low-water bridge on thirteen acres in the Ozarks. She believes in home-cooked meals, quality time with people, and shutting down the screens.

Yet, Jacqueline Wolven is a national consultant who helps small businesses and entrepreneurs promote their brands and grow.  With a background in graphic design (ask her about Ninja Turtles), she is an expert in marketing brands (you are a brand) through traditional and social media. She speaks at blogging conferences nationwide, writes for Huffington Post and Beliefnet.com.

But back to the simple bit: she has been featured in Real Simple, Tiny Buddha, and is a regular contributor to LifeHack

Her advice? Life should be simpler and work should be smarter.

As writers, we want to write real books, not make a career of social media. Jackie's funny wisdom and her technical savvy can teach us the sane and successful way to find, create, and market ourselves as writers without giving up actual writing.

 The Total Journey

Really, I should just keep quiet, because the second box above says it all. We've finally got all the pieces in place to take you from your desire to write a book to your finished book AND author platform. In two years, if you want.

Oh my cow, that's exciting. And as far as I know, pretty darn unique outside a university setting. So, spend $30,000 to $60,000 on an MFA or plug in with the Village Writing School. Hmm. . .

Of course, we can't credential you to teach or write letters after your name. You'll have to spend the big bucks for that. But if you want to learn to tell your story in a publishable, readable, engaging way, we can do that. If you want to actually write and not just talk about it, we're here to educate, motivate, inspire and guide you

So, what are you waiting for? Let's get started. Or, if you're already writing, get better. (We can always get better.) If you're stuck, get empowered.

This Saturday, I'll be teaching Dialogue and Setting (and Research).
I organize massive amounts of research for my historical writing, and I bet I can show you a thing or five.

Next Saturday, Jackie starts her series with BLOG RIGHT.

Finish a BOOK. Build a PLATFORM. Live the LIFE.

Issue #17 – Grit by the Glass

For this issue, we’d love stories, essays & poems that can find their way around the darkest hollers & the seediest city blocks . . . words that know their way around shotguns & fights, black eyes & regret . . . pieces that will shake you to your core because they are unafraid of broaching a difficult topic . . . with aplomb.
