nd week of June.
This week’s report include:- Dog Control Orders; Attempted fire at Quinton Pools; Proposed Combined Authority; Scam Alert; Post replaced in Leaf Lane; Manor Road closure; Cecily Road recycling banks; Carriageway closure on Thursday 4th June; Dates for your diary. And Finally…..
Dog Control Orders
New dog control orders are being introduced by the Council from June 15
th. In the future, Dogs will have to be on leads in certain areas of parks, pavements/grass verges and cemeteries. Read the City Council report
here.
Attempted Fire at Quinton Pools
As seen in the top photo the swans and cygnets are doing well which is a lovely sight to see at Quinton Pools. Proud parents are always nearby so be careful as they can attack if they feel threatened.
The Council has recently carried out some improvement works around the edge of the main pool. Coir matting has been put in place to protect the banks from eroding away. Unfortunately vandals have been trying to set fire to it. If you see anything suspicious please phone 101 or let us know and we will report it to the Park Rangers.
Proposed Combined Authority?
The City Council plans to form a combined authority were discussed at a Cabinet meeting on Thursday 28
th May. Roger attended the meeting where the ruling Labour group agreed to take the proposal forward. Read the Coventry Telegraph report
here.
The Conservative group has asked that a referendum takes place to get the views of the ‘People of Coventry’. In our area residents are telling Roger and Hazel that they wish to join up with Warwickshire, not Birmingham. It was agreed that the Council would look into the costs of a referendum and report back on its decision. Please let us know your views?
Coventry Consumer Network has issued this scam alert.
We have had more reports from local residents following unsolicited telephone cold calls offering a ‘Call Blocker’ device. The caller claimed that once plugged into your telephone line the device would prevent all unwanted sales calls.
There are a number of devices available, some are better or easier to set up than others so if you are interested in buying one, do your homework first and search the Internet for some recent online reviews by people who have bought a device before agreeing to buy something from someone who rings you out of the blue!
Remember, if you are registered with the
Telephone Preference Service [TPS] you should not receive calls from anyone in the UK trying to sell you a call blocking device! To register for
FREE with the TPS click
here or phone 0845 070 0707.

Post replaced in Leaf Lane
Residents in Leaf Lane reported to Roger that a black and white post had been knocked down. A tremendous amount of traffic is using Leaf Lane in an attempt to avoid the queues on the by-pass and drivers have been seen doing a three point turn here in an effort to get to their destination quickly. We are pleased to report that the post has now been replaced.
Manor Road closure.
From Wednesday June 3
rd, Manor Road will CLOSE permanently, to allow ongoing demolition and regeneration work. From this point the Eaton Road entrance to the station will become 2-way, allowing both entry and exit from the station to the Ring Road.
Cecily Road recycling banks.
The Council has requested that all private firms who have recycling containers in Cecily Road, near Quinton Park, remove them by 31
st May 2015. Signs are in place to let residents know that the site is due to close. After this date any recycling items left at this site on the ground will be classed as 'fly tipping'. The recycling centre at the Whitley ‘waste to energy’ plant on London Road is open 7 days a week, for Coventry residents to use. Click
here for opening times.
Carriageway closure on Thursday 4th June
On Thursday 4
th June the
southbound carriageway of the A444 between London Road and the Festival Island will be closed between 20:00 and 06:00. Diversion routes will be via London Road / Toll Bar Island and the A45. Normal access into JLR/Hotel/Gym and the business park will be maintained.
