Meanwhile, ASAP is celebrating the launch of a new chapter in Romania and holding its first-ever regional conference in Brandenberg, Germany. The organization is also recruiting a new Vice President and interns for number of its programs. Read about these developments and more in this issue of ASAP Update.

Global Climate Change Week. The ASAP-supported project Global Climate Change Week (GCCW) was launched on May 26. GCCW is a new initiative designed to encourage academics in all disciplines and countries to engage with their students and communities on climate change action and solutions. During GCCW (to be held this year on October 19-25) academics will alter their programs to coordinate their teaching on some aspect of climate change. To learn more or launch an event on your campus, click here.
ASAP Romania Launch. ASAP Romania held its official launch on May 25, in partnership with the European Commission, the UNDP and others. Titled Combating Poverty and Inequalities: New Perspectives for Romanian Academics and Practitioners, the event featured a lecture by Thomas Pogge on the SDGs. For event details and photos, visit the ASAP Romania Facebook page.
Introducing the First Global Colleagues Cohort. The first cohort of ASAP’s flagship program Global Colleagues has been matched. Global Colleagues aims to foster collaboration between earlier-career scholars working on poverty-related research who are based in the Global South and more senior scholars working on similar topics at well-resourced research institutions in the South and North. To read about the colleague pairs, click here.
SOFI Report Masks Failure to Address Hunger. A new essay by Thomas Pogge critiques the FAO's State of Food Insecurity Report for vastly overstating progress against hunger. Pogge argues that unjustifiable changes to hunger measurement account for most of the reported success. To read the essay in full, click here.
