Check your Hard Disk Health

Anyone who has owned a PC or laptop for a few or more years would most likely be able to tell you about a horror story of hard disk failure. Unfortunately, Hard Disks in our devices don't last forever. Normal hard disks use magnetism to store data on special platters but sometimes things go wrong - the good news is you can get a heads up before all is lost. Think of it as an earthquake early warning system for your PC! If you find your PC or laptop is running strangely slow - test your hard disk. A simple free tool called SpeedFan can display the SMART status of your hard disk and give you a simple overall health report. If it's not looking too good then back up your data right away and give us a call to arrange for a replacement part. We can get you back up to peak performance in no time.

Feel free to browse digitalinsite.net for our computer systems and laptops or to make a support booking to get your devices or network running the way it should be. We support customers in both homes and businesses all across Adelaide and would love to help you too.

Have a great weekend!

Update your software the easy way - NINITE

I get a lot of questions from my customers about updating software and the best way to go about it. A great little website I found called ninite.com makes it super easy. Just tick the boxes for the software you want to install, click "Download Installer" and then run the file. The next step is crucial and it involves sitting back in your chair with a coffee in hand watching your software auto update :)

Free up space!

Even though our devices these days have huge storage capacity, we as humans always seem to find a way to fill them up. Sometimes in very strange ways. If your PC or laptop is running out of space and you don't know why - give Treesize free a try! It's a tiny little program that displays the folders on your computer in descending size order so you can easily spot the space hogs and delete or move them to an external device. Now that's handy :)

Where's the Start Button gone?

If your computer is running Windows8 then you might have wondered where the traditional Start Button has gone that was there for the past decade in all previous versions of Windows. Microsoft made a strange decision to remove it but the good news is you can get it back. Simply visit ninite.com and click "Classic Start" then download the installer and run it. You'll have your old friend the Start Button back in a flash.
