Dear Supporters and Friends,
KAREN STRYDOM, OUR NEW MISSIONARY TO JAPAN
It is with pleasure that we at Mission Japan can announce that we are sending Karen Strydom as our next missionary to Japan. We are deeply grateful for and excited about Karen’s eventual positive response to the clear call of the Lord.
After a selection process, during which Mission Japan joined with the church in Japan in prayerful searching for the Lord’s guidance, we are able to testify gladly of Karen’s calling. She has the necessary qualifications, she has a lovely attitude and she herself is firmly convinced of her calling to Japan. For a young lady to agree to this lifelong calling to minister in a distant country and within a foreign culture – where less than 1% of the population are Christians – requires enormous sacrifice and commitment.
Karen studied Theology at the University of Stellenbosch and qualified as a youth worker. Afterwards she did youth work in the Dutch Reformed Congregation Andrew Murray, in Johannesburg for several years. She has a passion for youth work and acquired valuable experience. In the Reformed Church in Japan, which battles to reach out effectively to a younger generation, there is an urgent need for someone to help establish youth work. But first Karen will have to learn Japanese! Japanese is an exceptionally difficult language to master and it will mean at least two years of full-time study in Japan.
Karen is currently visiting congregations and individuals. As Mission Japan’s work depends on voluntary financial contributions, Karen first has to establish a strong support network. This means that she shares the story of her calling with congregations, groups and individuals and then depends on the Lord to provide supporters who will share her calling.
Let us help Karen in this great undertaking. Let us pray for her, for her emotional, physical and spiritual preparation. Let us pray for Mission Japan who is sending her and for the Reformed Church in Japan who will be receiving her. And let us thank the Lord that he has called such an exceptional young lady like Karen for this great work. Her calling is our calling too!
Thank you for your loyal support.
God bless you.
Gideon
