Events this Whitsun week at Dylan's Birthplace!

Wednesday 27th May

Colour of Saying: A monthly discussion group

The Colour of Saying is a new discussion group set up at 5 Cwmdonkin Drive, the Birthplace of Dylan Thomas, which aims to encourage people with an interest in art and literature to discuss and perform their work and has its inaugural meeting on Wednesday 27th May at 7:00pm

The new group is the brainchild of the Birthplace Versifier in Residence Natalie Holborow and takes its name from the Dylan Thomas poem ‘Once it was the colour of saying’ which is about the view out of the front bedroom window of the Birthplace.

In the first session the group shall look and discuss Dylan's  "Love in the Asylum", "The Force That Drives the Green Fuse" and "The Peaches".

The aim of the group is to draw on the spirit of the famous circle of Dylan Thomas’ friends and associates in his Swansea days - the ‘Kardomah’ gang - who met at the old Kardomah cafe on Castle Street, Swansea and in the study of 5 Cwmdonkin Drive on a weekly basis.

Geoff Haden of the Birthplace, says "The purpose of the group is to provide a relaxed atmosphere in which people do not feel threatened but may become inspired by the creative past of the house and use the experiences in their own creative futures."

There is no pressure and it is entirely up to you whether you'd like to put forward your own views or just come and listen and make some new friends in fellow Dylan fans!

There is no charge for the opening session but participants are asked to contact Miss Holborow in advance on 07530 574167 or the Birthplace by email info@dylanthomasbirthplace.com or by calling (01792) 472 555

The Orange Circus Band

Festival favourites The Orange Circus Band play Dylan's front parlour at 5 Cwmdonkin Drive as part of their 'Nellie Tour' on the afternoon of Saturday 30th May at 2:30pm

A family band, whose roots come from Virginia. They play - what they call - mountain monkey music, which is a blend of Americana with foot-stomping music that is wholly unique.

Take a look at the colourful video for their extremely
catchy song 'Carmen Town'
