CSMS at the Capitol:

This Week

SB 1028: Just 8 Days Left

With the 2015 legislative session scheduled to end one week from tomorrow, the race is on to stop SB 1028 in the House.

Although there is some opposition in the House, we can't stop now. All CSMS members are urged to contact their representatives -- if everyone does their part, we can prevent the bill from coming to a vote.

Act now: take five minutes and use VoterVoice to ask your Representative for a NO vote on SB 1028. VoterVoice is a fast and convenient way to reach elected officials with just a few clicks.

If you would prefer to contact your legislators directly (call, email, write, visit), that is fine -- the critical metric is the overall volume of physician contact. Find your legislator here. If you have questions, please contact CSMS SVP for Government Affairs Ken Ferrucci (kferrucci@csms.org or 203-865-0587 x106).

SB 467: Telemedicine Bill Moves to House

CSMS provided testimony on several telemedicine bills  during this year's session, including SB 467 An Act Concerning the Facilitation of Telemedicine Services. SB 467 has passed the Senate and is now awaiting action in the House. The bill puts into place requirements for access to medical records in order for telemedicine services to be provided, and for reports of such services to be sent to the patient's primary care provider. Read the CSMS testimony and view full text of the bill and its status.

SB 981: Medical Assistants

Earlier this year, CSMS provided testimony in support of careful expansion of the medical assistant's role in a physician office, and SB 981 has moved to the House after passing the Senate. The bill would allow physicians to delegate certain services, such as vaccinations, to medical assistants. Read the CSMS testimony and view full text of the bill and its status.
