UBC Celebrates 10 years of cultural camps
On May 22, 2015, Stó:lō youth, caregivers, camp leaders and coordinators who have been part of Xyolhemeylh Cultural Camps gathered to share stories and reflect on camps past. Special thanks to Natalie Brandon and Harley Chappell for making it happen!
The event marked the 10th anniversary of a partnership with the UBC Division of Health Care Communication in which UBC students began going to the camps to learn alongside Aboriginal youth and experience the lifestyles of the Stó:lō people a decade ago. Read more...

The Spring 2015 Edition highlights the issue of health and immigrant and refugee women. It is distributed to multicultural societies and immigrant settlement service providers, universities, public libraries, and to elected officials across British Columbia.
The article features work by the UBC Division of Health Care Communication to teach people in the community to facilitate workshops on how to talk with doctors as well as skills to help women to be more involved in their health care. Read more...
Health Professional Student Journal: Call for submissions!

The Health Professional Student Journal (HPSJ) aims to improve care in our communities by supporting interprofessional learning among colleagues and individuals who use healthcare services.
Each issue aims to have at least one piece from a community member / patient. Creative submissions are welcome.
If you'd like to submit a piece, please contact the HPSJ editor, Laura Bulk, at ubc.hpsj@gmail.com.
This workshop is for students in UBC health and human service programs. Space is limited to 20 students!

Tweet: You can’t always stop the rain, but wouldn’t it be nice if there was an umbrella for everyone?
As a survivor of an acquired brain injury, Wendy has enjoyed being a member of the UBC Health Mentors Program over the past school year.
On Wednesday, April 22nd 2015 Wendy's group presented what they have learned at the annual Health Mentors Program Symposium in the Life Sciences Centre on campus.
The group's 'tweet' was accompanied by a poster board display that showed the issues that one may struggle with once home from the hospital, each of these falling upon an umbrella which was supported by the many professionals available to help.
"It’s an experience of learning from each other, and I have been delighted to take part. I hope that more survivors and caregivers in the Lower Mainland will consider taking part next year." says Wendy.
Over 180 abstracts were received from around the world including, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, UK and USA.
Abstracts are being reviewed by the conference committee. Watch for the program to be available later this summer!
