A Newsier "Edge" Snaps into Focus on Channel 18
By Mark Washburn, Charlotte Observer
April 21, 2015

WCCB’s (Channel 18) magazine show that follows its 10 p.m. newscast has departed from its pop-culture roots to take on more serious topics. It’s a sign of maturity for the program born in 2002 with a hipster, bad-boy vibe and one ahead of its time in trying to lure younger audiences to local news. Read More...

CW upfront: Smart schedule moves

The network is pairing like shows for better flow across five nights
By Toni Fitzgerald, Medialife Magazine

May 15, 2015

The CW is wrapping up a good season, its most-watched in seven years and one that produced the network’s most-watched show ever, “The Flash.”

This fall the network hopes to build on that by improving the flow of its schedule, matching up like shows on the same nights and saving one of the most anticipated new shows, a “Flash”-“Arrow” spinoff, for midseason to strengthen its scheduling there.

The CW upfront schedule for fall, released Thursday morning in advance of the network’s afternoon presentation, makes small tweaks to three nights, while keeping Tuesday and Wednesday the same.

The aim: Achieve more crossover viewing between shows.

It’s an approach that has worked well on Tuesdays, where the network has two comic book dramas, and Wednesdays, where it airs two dark dramas.

Plus, by moving “The Originals” to Thursday behind the show it was spun off of, “The Vampire Diaries,” the CW finally gets a worthy companion to one of its top shows.

The network’s schedule is remarkably steady. It has only one new show for fall, after renewing three new programs from this season. Read More...

Rating for the CW’s fall schedule: A-

The network has better flow between shows airing each night, and not much change to the schedule speaks to the CW’s confidence in its current shows and its focus on stability. Medialife.
