We continue our successful associations in China! As design leader, Robert Edson Swain Architect + Design, along with our China team: won 1st prize nationally in the planning design for Luoyang City's Yi/Luo River Competition! This is the most historic birthplace of Chinese culture -- the former Middle Kingdom -- the three original Kingdoms: Xia, Shang & Zhou, starting in the 21st century BC. It was in the Zhou Kingdom where Taoism was established. Later, two significant Dynasties emerged, the Han and Tang. During the Tang Dynasty, Buddhism was welcomed and established in China.
Our design utilizes a matrix of parks reflecting the geographic relationship between the five city states. Ecological planning connects history through a system of waterways, while preserving farmland and integrating modern city development. The result is an ecologically complex plan that allows the antecedent cultural past to be told through a park and river network.
