May 2015
Hello BDI Buzz Readers...
... and warm greetings from the Business Diversity Institute.
Our annual Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week Conference planning is under way and nominations for MED Week award winners are open. Please save the date as the celebration will be held September 28th – October 3rd, with the luncheon to be held on October 2nd.
MED Week nominations are open as well, we encourage you to nominate a minority-owned business who has performed outstanding work and has shown growth in the last year, or diversity Practitioners who should be recognized for their efforts to break down barriers and create a level playing field for which minority-owned firms can successfully compete. This year we will also acknowledge our corporate and government agency partners who are challenging the status quo by creating programs that positively impact the minority owned businesses and provide opportunities for small businesses in our region.
If you are interested in participating as a sponsor for this year’s MED Week celebration, sponsorship information is available on the BDI website.
Cheers!
Kimberly Mitchell-Phillips,

Writing Off Your Summer Vacation -
How to determine whether the costs of your next trip are tax deductible.
If you're lucky enough to get away this season, consider making vacation plans that will enable you to deduct some of your travel expenses. The only way to do this is to include certain activities in your trip.
