Look for the Escape

by
Hope N Griffin

There have been many times in life where temptations have seemed impossible to overcome.

As I watch my children playing it is evident that they face the same struggles. Today, it is the challenge to stay focused and clean rather than sit and play. I know that their tomorrows will bring temptations, temptations that will carry greater consequences then a simple scolding from their mother.

If it were not for God’s promises, promises He has proven true in my life many times, I would be fearful for my children. 1 Corinthians 10:13 speaks of God’s faithfulness. Though we face temptations He is faithful to provide an escape. Perhaps the escape is as simple as a good pair of running shoes, or more direct in the form of a phone call from a friend right at the moment you felt you could not resist any longer.

While I teach my children the importance of obedience, I will also teach them to keep an open eye to the escape route God will provide. As they clean their room and are tempted to play, a gentle reminder of putting the toy out of site accomplishes both the task and removes the temptation.

What temptations have you recently been faced with? Are you in the midst of one that seems overwhelming? Can you see God’s escape route?

Prayer: God may you open our eyes that when temptation does occur that we will see the way of escape that you have provided. Amen

Thought for the day: When you find yourself tempted actively seek out the escape route.

1 Corinthians 10:13 NASB
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
