Newsletter June 2015
There is so much going on at Equatours HQ at the moment, that we simply haven’t had the time to update our website with our brand new sporting tours, fabulous new hotels, and the latest travel gossip! So to keep you up-to-date, we will cramp as much as possible into this June newsletter of summer snippets for the coming season.

New Sporting Tours

We are constantly on the lookout for new and exciting tours for our fellow Equatorians, and are delighted to announce that we will be offering the Tour de Tuli Cycle Challenge in August 2016. A unique fundraising event that supports Children in the Wilderness, a non-profit organisation committed to the development and education of rural children in Africa, this multi-day mountain bike tour covers terrain in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe.  Not for the light-hearted, it requires ample training and preparation, but with over a year to get in shape, anyone can participate in this annual event!

The Tour de Tuli has limited spaces, and while it usually sells out within just a few weeks, Equatours has managed to secure 15 places for international cyclists in 2016.  Check out the website: http://www.tourdetuli.com/ and contact us for more information.

If you cannot wait until August 2016 for your next cycling adventure, we have 2 fantastic Road Bike Tours in Namibia this year.  A comprehensive 9-day, 800km route throughout southern Namibia, it includes the Fish River Canyon, the Namib Desert, Luderitz, Kolmanskop Ghost Town, the Kalahari Desert and Windhoek.  We can extend your stay with a safari in Etosha National Park – and create the perfect Namibian holiday.  2 scheduled departures are available, one in August, the other September – please contact us for details.

New Hotels

We love nothing more than expanding our hotel portfolio with luxurious retreats, and we have found 3 of them with The Zanzibar Collection.  The Palms, Baraza Resort & Spa, and Breezes Beach Club & Spa are three privately owned luxury boutique hotels on the east coast of Zanzibar.  Set on Bwejuu Paje Beach, voted one of the top 30 island beaches in the world by Condé Nast, it is the perfect location for a romantic honeymoon, a family break, or a few days R&R after climbing Kilimanjaro.

Ingo and I will be visiting all 3 resorts after our Kilimanjaro Total Lunar Eclipse Tour in September – so keep an eye on our blog for some images later in the year.

Travel Gossip

South Africa introduced new entry rules on 1st June 2015, effecting children under the age of 18. With immediate effect, all minors travelling to South Africa or transiting a South African airport must be able to produce a full unabridged birth certificate on arrival, along with their passport and various other documents if they are travelling alone, with just one parent, or with a legal guardian.

While these regulations are not ideal for families, the South African Rand / GBP exchange rate makes SA a great value destination for 2015, and with a current rate of 19.2 rand to the pound, your money will go a lot further here than it will in many other safari destinations.

If you dream of visiting Brazil in 2016 for the Olympics, you will pleased to know that the Real has fallen by roughly 30% against the Pound in the past year, making Brazil much more affordable for British and European travellers. There is already a high demand for hotels in Rio de Janeiro during the event, so now is definitely the time to start planning your trip for August 2016.

Wherever you travel in 2015, travel safe and have a wonderful trip!
Wendy & Ingo
