Field-tests in Peru demonstrate demand for MEDSINC
You are receiving this because you expressed interest in MEDSINC, THINKmd’s product, which transforms a mobile device into a self-training, frontline, pediatric, point-of-care clinical-severity system that determines how sick a child is, gathers health data, and generates therapeutic recommendations.
Field-tests in Peru
THINKmd’s founder and CEO, Barry Finette, joined colleagues from the University of Vermont to speak at a Peruvian Ministry of Health and NIH workshop on “Advanced Technology Transfer in Healthcare.” The workshop was organized by Rossana Rivas, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Health Technopole CENGETS at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Peru and Drs. Hans Vasquez and Franco Romani, Director and Deputy Director of Research and Technology Transfer at the National Institute of Health.
Following the workshop, Dr. Finette field-tested the MEDSINC platform with Dr. Adolfo Escalante and his staff at clinics throughout the Cusco region, which Dr. Escalante directs. In the tests, community health workers, nursing students, and nurses used MEDSINC to clinically assess children during their visits. The response to MEDSINC was very positive and corresponds with reactions from our tests in Bangladesh at the iccdr,b.
“MEDSINC is very clear and simple to use,” Dr. Escalante said. “This device will help us teach unskilled staff important skills so they can do a better job of helping more children. MEDSINC will also help us connect with the community in a positive way."
Dr. Escalante’s staff members involved in the testing commented, “MEDSINC is very simple to use and proves that we can use this type of technology to help children. This will allow us to reach many more children and to treat them better.”
Upcoming field-test in Ecuador
THINKmd will be testing MEDSINC in Ecuador this month in collaboration with Dr. Michelle Grunauer, Dean of the Colegio de Ciencias de la Salud, and Dr. Enrique Teran, Director, Hospital Simulación Médica, at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito and their staff. We will be testing in clinics and hospitals in and around the Quito region as well at in clinics in Coca in the Orellana region of the Amazon basin.
