A RiSING | Delightful Feast

Our food recipes continue the tradition of organic ingredients, sourced as locally as possible, and have evolved into the paradigm of “food as medicine” which means using select synergistic herbs and spices (Turmeric, Sage, Thyme, Rosemary, Ginger, Basil, Cloves, Chili …) to activate the health benefits of consuming these foods. These benefits can range from lowering blood pressure and LDL cholesterol, protecting against cancer, reducing inflammation, improving digestion and metabolic process, increasing stress resistance, and stabilizing blood sugar levels as well as mitigating diabetes. Our goal: simple recipes with a gourmet flare, using pure organic ingredients, as close to the soil and farm as possible.

Hydrating Health

This was also our second time doing restaurant-style service, making use of mobile technology (Waiterio) to take orders and send them to the food area where the dishes are being prepared by volunteers to order. Our clients were able to enjoy a special refreshment debuting for the first time in our line-up: Aquae A.M.O.R.E., water from The Water Brewery in Costa Mesa, CA. Most of us know of purified water, Aquae A.M.O.R.E. is leaps and bounds beyond it, providing a wealth of health benefits.

A.M.O.R.E. is an acronym with each letter representing how the water has been transformed: (A)lkalinized, (M)ineralized, (O)xygenated, (R)estructured, and (E)nergized. A detailed explanation of each of the processes and its associated benefits can be found here.

Collaborations

Our partner organization Animal Assistance League of Orange County also was present to provide pet food and supplies. This is always a popular and much anticipated service for our homeless population who have pets.

Starbucks volunteers also came to provide hot and iced beverages after the meal sharing.

In the near future, we anticipate new collaborations with other organizations to add basic medical care, legal, insurance, and other valuable services to the growing roster in support of our local homeless populations.

Life on the Streets

We are also working together with a community member Susan Menning on a special arts project called INSIDE | OUT: A photographic perspective of life on the street,
through the eyes of Santa Ana Civic Center's homeless residents.

The exhibit is curated by Susan Menning in partnership with The Heart of Delight.

Grand Opening Reception will be on Saturday, August 1st | 7-10 pm.

The Arts

In the celebratory spirit, once a year, we host a larger event called "A RiSING Community" which includes all of the elements of a Delightful Feast with added live entertainment from local musicians, theatre, dance, and performance artists, as well as LiveArt (a community art project that can be a painting or sculptor where everyone participates in its creation within the span of the event).

This year's theme is "less spectacle, more substance". The event will be a more intimate sharing of the arts with the local homeless population, in open-mic style, to give all members of the community a chance to share their talents and to connect with people in need.
