Dear colleagues and SAWBO friends, we are delighted to share with you our June newsletter, in which we spotlight some of the most important functions of the SAWBO deployer app. As you begin to use the app, we would greatly appreciate it if you would contact us and let us know how and where you are using the SAWBO deployer.  We would love to be able to share your story!  As always, please feel free to share your suggestions with us at animations@illinois.edu.

What You Can Do with the SAWBO Deployer

We are very excited to introduce the SAWBO Deployer App, a tool that will make the distribution and use of SAWBO's animations much easier.  There are three main functions of the SAWBO app:
  1. You can search through all of SAWBO's videos in an easy and quick way using the filters of topic, language, and country.
  2. You can view online or download the animations to your cell phone. Once you have downloaded the animation you will be able to watch it whenever you want, even when internet connection is not available.
  3. You can share the animations and the app itself using Bluetooth technology. This is also possible where internet connection is not readily available.
Also we would like to thank organizations like FARA for all the effort that they are putting in to help deploy the app and make it more accessible to the people that need it.

ICT Training Season

This summer Drs. Julia Bello-Bravo and Barry Pittendrigh will be giving ICT training sessions in different countries around the world like Ghana. These sessions give the attendees an opportunity to learn valuable knowledge about how to effectively use SAWBO animations. Some examples of the information taught in ICT sessions are: where you can download SAWBO animations, how the new SAWBO Deployer app works and how to become a voice-over volunteer.

Response to a Dengue Outbreak in Tonga

Last February a Dengue Fever outbreak was declared in Tonga. In order to contain the spread of Dengue, the Ministry of Health worked as quickly and effectively as possible to combat the disease. One of its actions was contacting SAWBO and asking for the creation of a variant of the Dengue Prevention animation. SAWBO adapted the video in order to cover all the Ministry of Health's needs, so that it could be easily understood by members of the Tonga community. We are glad to announce that the outbreak has already ended, and that the adapted animation will remain in the Ministry of Health's possession so that it can be used at any time in the future.

We Are Working On It

These are some of the projects we are working on that will be available soon in our Video Library. Please help us work faster and reach our goals. A donation of any size is greatly appreciated, and goes a long way towards ensuring the completion of these and other projects.

Financial Scams

The best way to protect yourself from financial scams is by being informed about the common strategies that a scammer might use. This 2D animation will give you some tips to help you protect your money.

Colorectal Cancer Screening

Colorectal cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells in the colon or rectum divide uncontrollably, ultimately forming a malignant tumor. Early stage colorectal cancer has no symptoms, but it is the best stage to discover this disease.  It is highly curable when discovered early. Screening can prevent the cancer from forming, or delay the onset, which is what this project will educate viewers about.

Ebola Spread and Ebola Infection in 2D

After publishing the first animation, Ebola Symptoms 2D, we are doing further work on others that explain the spread and the infection of the disease.  These animations will be added to our Ebola series of videos.

The Jerrycan Method for Proper Bean Storage

In this next animation we will explain how to store your beans using the an airtight jerrycan. By following this method, you can prevent insect damage to your beans after harvest.
