World Oceans Day
June 8th is World Oceans Day, a date designated by the United Nations to recognize our relationship with the ocean. Around the world this week there are maritime festivals, beach clean-ups, school projects, and environmental presentations. It is an international event that focuses interest on the ocean and its benefits for all mankind. We hope you did something significant for the ocean this week in honor of World Oceans Day. The ocean will serve us well forever if we demand now to serve it better, and if we live with the thought that every day is Ocean Day.

The Next System Project
What is required to deal with the systemic challenges facing us now and in coming decades? The Next System Project is debating this concept and more, putting the central idea of system change, and the idea that there can be a “next system,” on the map. Working with a broad group of researchers, theorists and activists, they are launching a national debate on the nature of “the next system" to refine and publicize alternative models to the failed systems of the past. Their goal? To move the political conversation beyond current limits with the aim of visualizing a radically different system for the future.

W2O Advisory Board Member Alex MacCallum
The W2O is pleased to welcome Alex MacCallum to the Advisory Board. Alex is the Assistant Masthead Editor at the New York Times for Audience Development and Product. Before moving to the newsroom in 2014, she was on the New Digital Products team as the lead for the Times NYT Cooking product. Alex started her career at the Washington Post as an Editorial Aide, and was the first news editor at the Huffington Post from its inception through its early growth. Alex will be our advisor on digital technology, marketing, and messaging. We couldn't be happier to have her on board.
