Thank you to all who participated!
LWVC Convention
Julie Navejas, David LaMacchia, and Nati Oron were pleased to represent LWVSF at the LWV of California Convention in San Diego. The convention was highly successful- adopting a new biennial budget, approving a new Board, and confirming LWVC priorities for the coming year. LWVSF was also proud to have our own Christina Dragonetti  be voted into the LWVC Board! We are thrilled to now have two LWVSF members serve on the State Board- Jennifer Waggoner and Christina Dragonetti- thank you for your service!
Advocacy
Tell Congress to Protect People Not Polluters
Earth Day celebrated it's 45th anniversary on April 22nd. The Environmental Protection Agency has worked to establish regulations that will reduce greenhouse gasses that cause climate change — like carbon dioxide, mercury and methane, and protect U.S. waters from pollution. But our natural resources continue to come under attack. Tell Congress to stand up for the planet and support the work of the EPA to fight climate change, protect public health and grow our economy!

Action Alert: Urge the President to Fully Reject the Keystone XL Pipeline
President Obama fulfilled his promise to veto legislation approving the Keystone XL (KXL) pipeline! The League is proud to stand behind the President’s veto because the pipeline is not in our national interest. But the fight is not over — President Obama and the U.S. State Department must still make a final decision on the Keystone XL pipeline. Thank President Obama for vetoing the pipeline legislation and urge him to reject final approval of the Keystone XL pipeline once and for all!

Pro/Con Guide:
Volunteers Needed
The League is eager to begin working on this year's Pros and Cons guide and we need your help to produce it! This is a great opportunity to educate yourself and others about important propositions that are up for vote. Voters have found these guides to be a useful source of impartial information during the elections process. We are looking for individuals who have research and/or writing experience and are interested in drafting content analyzing each proposition on this fall's ballot. The work will kickoff with a training in August and continue through election week. The time commitment is very flexible and volunteers can work remotely with a training and breakfast between August and November.

Call to action: Please contact lwvsf@lwvsf.org If you would like to participate.

Welcome Claire!
Help us welcome our new intern, Claire Dunmont, to our team. Claire began her internship last month and will stay with LWVSF until July, focusing on grant related work.

In September 2014 Claire graduated from Panthéon-Assas University with a Master’s degree in International Private Law. After passing the Bar exam last December, she decided to move to San Francisco in  order to improve her English and learn more about American culture, specially concerning local public policy. In France, Claire is very involved in Children Connection, a humanitarian association which focuses on children’s issues all over the world.

Claire is looking forward to contributing to the League’s mission and meeting people who share her values. In her free time, she loves reading, going out with her friends and, of course, travelling.
Story Bank
Leah Edwards
I have been passionate about policy and social change for as long as I can remember. When I was 18 and living in Arizona, I began volunteering on political campaigns and for an Arizona-based Super PAC, and found the experience of working with both candidates and voters to be very rewarding. I continued developing this interest by taking policy courses in college. Furthermore, I got increasingly involved in local sustainability initiatives, which showed me the impact that relatively small, local efforts can have and inspired me to continue community involvement.

When I moved to San Francisco last year, I wanted to find a way to engage in my community in a way that brings about positive social change. I began volunteering with the League of Women Voters San Francisco leading up to participating in my first election in California. I found the experience to be rewarding in terms of becoming involved in my community and enlightening in terms of furthering my own knowledge of elections and politics in California. Working on voter education initiatives through the League of Women Voters San Francisco has been an inspiring and engaging way to participate in the democratic process. I am proud to be a part of an organization that has done so much to further the democratic process through voter engagement.
