The Queen`s Cup and little withe lines
The the Queen’s Cup held in the grounds of Winsor Great Park has been disputed since 1960. Since then, the tournament has reflected, some would say imperfectly, the swing of fortunes around the world. Some older readers may recall a time when they may have been amongst the teams;
•    3 from Asia, 2 Thais of Chinese origin, King Power and King Power Foxes and a Malay in the case of Sifani
•    3 teams from the Arabian Gulf, Dubai and UAE Polo including RH Polo for its captain’s Iranian roots,
•    2 from France, Talandracas and HB Polo,
•    4 from England, El Remanso, Somerton, Zakara and Salkeld,
However the author does not. At a time when Europe has its future is at stake, at least in Euro terms, when in Middle East is struggling against the imposition, 100 years ago of the Sykes Picot agreement and there are significant moves in Asia, is it nevertheless pleasant that teams continue to come to dispute, in gentlemanly terms, Cambiaso’s injury notwithstanding, the Queen’s Cup. Even if as there no Indian Princes, Nigerian millionaires or Canadian Tycoons  were in the past, after all, is it not so much more important to be on the field and play, and for those whose spectators’ eyes were on the play and not in the champagne, to see Pablo Pieres pick the ball up around the 60 yard mark, and volley it no less than 9 times before it dropped gracefully into the goal mouth and behind the little white line. Perhaps that little white line was for a short period of time so much more important than those on the maps of old, even more so that the former, on the playing field, in the end united and did not divide.
