As you no doubt have heard, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals denied the Justice Department's request for an emergency stay on May 26. That means the Executive Action Immigration programs (DAPA and Expanded DACA) are still on hold, and we cannot apply yet.

Here is a roundup of links to help you and your communities understand this decision and what it means for all of us:

Disciples Immigration Legal Counsel's timeline of the court case

The court's decision

Administrative Relief Resource Center's summary

National Immigration Law Center's webinar on the decision

National Immigration Law Center's fact sheet on likely scenarios

National Day Labor Organizing Network's call for appeal

We Hope

While the legal battle goes on, we continue to prepare so that we are ready to apply for DAPA and Expanded DACA as soon as the programs begin. Get Ready to Apply.

Pastors with DAPA cases should have received instruction packets and representation agreements from Disciples Immigration Legal Counsel in April. If you have not received yours or have questions, please contact Tana Liu-Beers at 317-289-1407 or tana@dhm.disciples.org.

We Work

Refugee & Immigration Ministries continues working with Disciples across the country to convince lawmakers of the need for DAPA, Expanded DACA, and especially a permanent immigration reform. Your stories about how the delay affects your family are the most powerful tools in this work. If you're willing to share your story, please contact Sharon Stanley-Rea at 202-957-7826 or sstanley@dhm.disciples.org.

Meanwhile, the movement to end family detention gathers steam. Connect with RIM on Facebook.
