Throughout the month of June, the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance is challenging people to spend 30 minutes outside every day to reconnect with nature. You can still sign up for your own challenge, and follow how the Office of Sustainability is getting out on Facebook.

What's New at UW?

Startup offers ag antibiotic alternative
A UW-developed antibiotic-free method to protect livestock against common infections takes aim at the growing public health crisis of drug-resistant infections, caused by overuse of antibiotics in agriculture and medicine.
Holton Chair combines work in health and climate change
Professor Jonathan Patz will hold a newly endowed John P. Holton Chair in Health and the Environment, which will support his ongoing work at the intersection of health and climate change.
Education outside of the classroom
Students in Nutri Sci 421 spent their first week of summer traveling around Madison, Milwaukee, and Wisconsin learning about environmental hazards and the basics of environmental health focusing on lead.

Food For Thought

Metal bottle caps now recyclable in Madison
Metal bottle caps have been added to the Madison recycling program. Used caps should be collected inside a tin or steel can, the can pinched closed, then placed in the city recycling carts.
Badger Bioneer nominations open
Know someone who is moving Madison toward a more sustainable future? Sustain Dane is seeking nominations for their Badger Bioneer recognition until June 12.
New Madison food carts are ready to roll
Many of the new Madison food carts are emphasizing local in their offerings, which range from barbecue, pickles, and pie to green juices, mini cheesecakes, and Filipino dishes.
