Hello,

This week instead of a blog and newsletter, I want to share a personal message to all the students and parents who are finishing up the school year. Whether it is elementary, middle school, high school or even college, making it to the end of another year is truly a feat to be celebrated.

To the parents I want to say, “great job!”

Even when it seemed like there just wasn’t enough time in the day for all of the projects, homework, drama, car lines, sporting events, band recitals, chorus and theater performances, and a bazillion other things – you did it.

You helped to guide this future teacher, policeman, CEO, fireman, accountant, actor, musician (the sky’s the limit!) through all of it and kept your sanity. If they forget to say thank you right now, it’s ok. They’ll realize some day just how much you played a part in their success and thank you.

Wait for it. It’s worth it.

To the students who have completed another year, especially those who have reached milestones like heading into high school next year or graduation from high school or college I want to say, “you are amazing!”

With all that you have to face these days from pressure to do what is expected of you by parents, teachers, coaches, and friends, it’s almost impossible to find the real you inside there. You need to know that while it’s great to please others, the important thing is to do what makes you happy.

It may not be what's expected and your parents may not share your enthusiasm and want to hold on and keep you from growing up and making those decisions right now but they will realize some day that you are capable of making great choices because of all they taught you. They will let go of the reins little by little and let you fly.

Wait for it. It's worth it.

As you make decisions now about your future and what you will do with

your life, I want you to always keep in mind what makes you happy and keep that in your sights.

Take a few minutes and watch this commencement address from Jim Carrey. I know it’s long but it’s so worth it. It really hits the point that we all choose our paths from a place of fear or a place of love.

All too often it is fear that guides us. You can change that at any age.

As Jim Carrey said, "Don't let anything stand in the way of the light that shines through this form. Risk being seen, in all of your glory."

Warmly,

P.S. If you just really, really don’t have time to watch the whole thing right now check out this shortened version with highlights. But, go back and watch the full one later! http://bit.ly/1pczNNc
