May Student of the Month

Congratulations to Phillip McMurtrie!

Georgia Trade School is very proud of our May Student of the Month - Phillip graduates in June and has already certified in FCAW 3G and 4G and SMAW 3G, with more certifications expected. Phillip was selected by GTS faculty and staff as Student of the Month because of his unwavering positive attitude, and willingness to help out with anything from showing new students the ropes to noticing when there are empty boxes needing to be taken out to the dumpster and doing so without being asked... and everything in between. Any employer would benefit from Phillip's style of cheerful helpfulness, along with his welding expertise and mastery.

Congratulations, Phillip, and best of luck!!

Bringing Good Things to Life

GTS graduate Justin Martin (pictured above) becomes our second welder to be hired by the iconic company, General Electric. We are very proud of him and really appreciate his quote below - it exemplifies what we are trying to do.

“The school is great. I really enjoy going there. Even after I graduated, I go up there to say hey to friends and instructors. They really give you the skills you need to start an electrifying career in welding.”

The Beach Life

GTS graduate and Shipbuilder Rene Alvarez recently shared the following “Be Jealous- I get to see this everyday”. It is true that for all of our welders they have the opportunity to live, work and play in the beautiful Gulf Coast.

The Art of Welding

Another impressive piece (pictured above) from GTS graduate David Robertson who upon seeing a request on social media, created a striking business card holder using the CEFGA logo.  No doubt this may be a future SkillsUSA project.

The Boys of Summer

Just like the Braves, we will be playing all summer long. There is no off-season in welding so if you want to grab one of the few remaining classes in 2015 now is a great time.

Honoring our Vietnam Heroes

As we have noted in our February newsletter one of our favorite groups is the North Cobb American Legion Post 304. Recently we had the opportunity to host them at the Atlanta Braves Vietnam Veterans night. It was incredibly moving to see these men surround the infield for the National Anthem (below).
Now we better get back to fabricating their bar so it is ready for the post to open in July!
