Summer is here and there are more hours to enjoy the sunshine, take in nature. There are also numerous opportunities to create beautiful works of art in the neighborhood during this "Summer of Color." Murals will be painted. Art pavilions will be started where flowers will bloom bright. Little libraries and audio stations will be installed by youth and provide the illumination of minds. Concerts, exhibits, art tours and workshops will adorn your calendar and keep your summer full and exciting. Thank you in advance for taking part!
 
The Healing 2015 - Call For Artists and Workshops
 
The 3rd annual North End Urban Expressions Art Festival: The Healing will occur on Saturday, August 22, 2015 from 11am to 8pm at the Oakland Avenue Farmers' Market at 9354 Oakland. The festival has brought out performing artists such gospel choirs, emcees, jazz trios, poets, b-boys and b-girls and more. Visual artists have painted murals and Healing Walls and rain barrels. This year we are excited for a new set of artists to share their talents and add to the fabric and story of the North End neighborhoodIf you believe your visual and performing art has the power to heal, uplift, and /or celebrate the North End please answer the call by filling out the form below. The deadline to apply for a slot is Friday, July 10, 2015.

Visual Arts:
To be an Healing Wall mural artist where your art will be featured  along Oakland Avenue please fill out The Healing Visual Artists Form.

Performing Arts:

If you would like to share your gift of positive and uplifting spoken word poetry, Hip-Hop, Jazz, storytelling, healing/movement, dancing, djing, etc.. please fill out the following form: The Healing Performing Artists Form

Workshop
If you would like to propose a workshop for The Healing 2015 please email  art@oaacdetroit.org for more details.

Vendors
To vend at this year's art and healing festival please fill out the vendor form: Vendor Application 2015 and email to oaklandaveart@gmail.com or drop it off at 7500 Oakland Avenue (Red Door Digital). Please call (313) 875-9026 before dropping off your vendor to ensure someone is at Red Door Digital to receive your form.

New Faces @OAAC

Please join OAAC in welcoming its inaugural crew of staff members to the organization! Scheherazade Parrish, Dr. Makeeba Ellington and Brandon "Spiffy" Foster will all be working to support the organization to build up membership, organize the community, spread information and to create art! OAAC Art Pavilions

Join community+public arts: DETROIT on Tuesday, June 16th as we discuss public arts and the next steps. Meeting highlights include:

  • Updates from community-elected artist team OAAC (Oakland Avenue Artists Coalition) and site visit
  • Neighborhoods Day: project ideas

Please join the O.N.E. MILE project as we unveil The Abstract Oracle Exhibit featuring North End artist Dr. Makeeba Ellington and Detroit artist Traci Ricks and Androme West on June 13th at 2pm at 8326 Oakland. Afro-Pop Garden Concert in the North End

Tuesday, June 16th, from 5:30-8PM the Boston-based band Kina Zore will be playing Mozambican Afro-pop outside at the Oakland Avenue Garden & Greenhouse in the North End!  Bring your families and friends and enjoy Kina Zore alongside several Detroit artists and musicians.  The event is free, but donations are welcome.
