We are re-sending the Father's Day Lesson - Keeping in mind WHO is Your FATHER...
June 21, 2015
Happy Father’s Day!
Dear Partners,
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. This lesson was written by Elder Frederick Crockrell. Be blessed:
Praise the Lord to all the saints of God, and Happy Father’s Day to all you fathers. Yes, we are celebrating fathers, and what better way to celebrate Father’s Day than to reflect on what the Bible has to say concerning fathers. First and foremost, I want to thank my Heavenly Father. Although most people would claim to be children of God, only the born-again believer has a right to call Him ‘Abba, Father’. (Jn 1:12-13) So as adopted sons and daughters, we cry, ‘Abba, Father!’
Monday
Read Gen 3:15-20. God decreed the existence of the family so that a man and woman whom the Lord has brought together would conceive children. Adam and Eve formed the first family. From this union were born Cain and Abel, and later Seth, and he fathered many sons and daughters. (Gen 5) The world is trying to redefine the family but God created it in the beginning.
Tuesday
Fathers, your position in the family is ordained by God. ‘Honor thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.’ (Ex 20:12) ‘This is the first commandment with promise.’ (Eph 6:2) Fathers, your position in the family is one of honor. You bring to your children what no one else can bring. Your sons and your daughters need you. They need your love and leadership. Declare the Word of the Lord over your house, ‘As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.’ (Josh 24:15)
Wednesday
Fathers, we are commanded by God to teach our children the Word of God. (Deut 6:6-9) The Bible says to teach the Word diligently to our children when we are just talking to them, when we’re sitting with them, when we’re walking with them, when we pray with them at night before we put them to bed and in the morning when they rise before they go to school. We also need to pray for them. We are to love God, which is the greatest commandment, but we’re also to teach our children to love God.
Thursday
Fathers, we can see by the Scriptures that there are times when we may need to discipline our children. The Bible says we are to do this in love and with understanding to give guidance and correction when needed. We must always pray for God’s wisdom and direction concerning our families. (Prov 13:24, 19:18, Heb 12, Eph 6:4, Col 3:21)
Friday
Read Eph 5:25-33. Fathers, one of the greatest gifts that we can give our children is the love honor and cherish their mother. Eph 5:28 says, So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. There are many more Scriptures about how we are to love our wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. See if you can find at least ten. Happy Father’s Day!
